Here's another.. Some people don't count it as british empire I know its sort of not but any country or state under the same king surely fits the criteria? Anyway scarcest of my anglo-Hannover coins today. 1/4 stuber from East Friesland Which was annexed to Hannover from Prussia in 1815. Hannover was then annexed by Prussia in 1866.
Stunning. I recently put up a topic on another coin forum, saying I believe this to be the ultimate british coin. The design of britannia, the fact it wasn't a currency we used and was not intended for our country just adds to my case. Seems like a "well do what we want" thing
Hi all, For some reason I decided a year ago I would like to developping my British coins collection that was very tiny at that time. It's now at the point where plastic albums are not any more satisfactory and the collection worth being displayed in trays : a kind of promotion in my mind ! The whole collection is of 173 coins so far, all different types (i.e. different reference #) except one or two that have duplicates. I can start showing them off here, nothing serious nor comprehensive, just cherrypicking from the trays and having fun at taking pictures of them A 1936 George V penny to start with, ref. Spink # 4055 please click on the pictures to get them full size Q
My oldest British coin so far, a cartwheel penny (1797) struck for George III, Ref. Spink # 3777. A nice, at least to my eyes, threepenny bit for George VI minted 1941, Ref. Spink # 4085 A 1935 George V farthing, not the most common year I guess, although not rare, and in quite nice condition, Ref. Spink # 4061 A quite nice Jubilee head shilling for Victoria, minted 1887, Ref. Spink # 3926 Q
Not at it's best of appearence, but a key date (1905) shilling for Edward VII, Ref. Spink # 3982 For Victoria, a 1887 jubilee head six pence, Ref. Spink # 3929 And for George V another six pence, struck just one century ago, in 1914, Ref. Spink # 4014 And to finish with for today a George IV crown, minted 1821, Ref. Spink # 3805 Q
here are the four coins I bought at a coin fair last june (please click on the pictures to get them full size) : A nice George III 1807 penny, Ref. Spink # 3780 George IV 1826 penny, not so nice, but still enjoyable, Ref. Spink # 3823 A William IV 1836 half crown, Ref. Spink # 3834. Worn but what the heck, it's an 1836 halfcrown... And an upgrade of my former young head Victoria penny, dated 1858, Ref. Spink #3948 Q
I didn't buy this because it was graded but simply because it was cheap for the grade it is unfortunately it has been allocated XF details but that's fine by me because it's not too harshly cleaned and it's not been done just before it went in to grade. Canada/ Jamaica penny trade token, I'm trying to find more info on this as to who issued it and where specifically for.. To date I can only find that it was for jam/can
Thanks Angelo, I was thinking low to mid MS myself, not worth sending in of course but a nice looking one I think!
EF PEI token. Next one of these I buy will be PE10-2 with the American flag. Ex- Greenway collection silver Fanam Token from Ceylon. A London Minted british trade dollar If anyone knows of or ever sees a Calcutta minted british trade dollar for sale I would greatly appreciate them letting me know My favourite buy of the month and of course it met tough competition since I've been looking for a nice but reasonably priced London trade dollar for a while is... 1690 May Gunmoney Half Crown. I've been after one of these for some time too because I was born in May 1990. Its pretty cool considering I'm a catholic too that this was the last coinage of a catholic king. 300 years to the month from when I was born
the gunmoney halfcrown is a real cracker--well done on getting that one,you don't often see them in that condition
Thanks mate, i am really pleased with it. To finally close my expenditure for this month is another I've sort of half chased a while but don't often present themselves for cheap an Anguilla liberty dollar. Seller pics again like a couple of the last lot I uploaded, this is coming from the states so I probably won't get it until next week at the soonest !
Just a few pics of the buys that have come in, incredibly happy without the halfcrown. It's at least gVF and on a good day may well fall into the XF category. I'm also pleased to know that I didn't even over pay. (I normally check prices before bidding but I just wanted it after chasing this month and year for some time) The Coin price guide book puts it at £200 I only paid £90 ! Another feature I really like that I've noticed just recently is that parts of the legend on both sides are visible ! The Liberty dollar.. I also am picking up a 1836 3 pence, it was dirt cheap and it's not just a normal uk issue coin they were actually minted for the colonies so it was important I got it !
