Today we had fun taking photos depicting the third dimension. I’ll bet you have all done it. Let’s post some photos depicting the profile of your coins. You can probably guess the coin(s) from these photo(s). (Hint: Mine are all Greek).
not high relief here, but it does show the thickness of this ptolemy iii coin.. here's a philip iii ...
C89 => super cool photos ... ummm, sadly my photo-skilz are almost "nil" Oh well, here goes nuthin' ... C Piso Lf Frugi, AR Denarius My Sweet ol' Imitative Attic Owl M. Caecilius Q.f. Q.n. Metellus Lesbos, Mytilene EL Hekte - Sixth Stater Rhodes AR Drachm ... again, I apologize for the "Glam-Photos" ...
chrsmat => I really like your "clam shell" example ... I tried to find a few more that were worthy of a side-view shot, but I ended-up diggin' pretty deep and fallin' kinda short (it is quite difficult to find examples that look super cool in the 3-D view) ... but I will post my three attempts merely because I went through such lovin' effort to impress you coin pals ... Pontos Amisos, AR Siglos (Hera) Macedonia (Pella Mint), Philip II, AR Tetradrachm Saloninus, BI Tetradrachm .... yah, I only shot this coin to show-off the "thickness" of this sweet example (one of my favourite coins) ...
If you are going to shoot extreme angles, it would be good to try Image Stacking Software. I used CombineZP freeware. I do not know if it runs on Windows 7 or 8 since I still have Vista.
Great side-view photos everyone. I'm on a little trip right now but will hopefully have another one to post in a couple days.
Another thing to try with perspective is the stereo view. My examples are made to be viewable by those who do cross eyed freeview or the old fashion parallel view. I can not do cross eye but know there are many who prefer it that way.
Very cool! Once my eyes had crossed sufficiently I was able to maintain the stereo focus even while flicking my eyes from obverse to reverse and from one of the stereo pairs to another. If anyone is having trouble, cross your eyes (or one eye) until you see four coins across a row. The two in the center will be in stereo (two center coins in each row). You can cross them further (five in the row) but then only the one central coin is in stereo.
i can't do it..i just get a headache if someone walked in the room and watched me they probably would have thought i was having some type of seizure.
