exactly. what is also funny is the wording in the ad...

SELLING THIS ONE IN THE ORIGIANAL HOLDER

    Origi-anal indeed.

Seller now claims that because he used the word "his" once, his ad is honest.. because "his" refers to some old dude who put the coin in a wrapper supposedly in the 1950's... therefor, that translates to the title and description of "the coin is still in original holder!!"

If this is the same seller I have seen peddling such goods on eBay in the past, this Dude has a nearly endless supply of such coins . . . pretty incredible, if you ask me.

Some major companies also sent coins out from catalogs and magazine ads in similar wrapper in the 50s or 60s, I forget which as I kept none in them. It was a nice protection for them in case someone tried to switch coins.

Buy the coin, not the holder. Right? : )

Well, this guy is sneaky...if you read the ENTIRE description, you'll see he sneaks in what is actually the truth...it IS deceiving, for those that don't know any better. Here is the description:

    OLD TIMER WAS BACK IN..
SOLD US A 5.00 INDIAN GOLD COIN
STILL IN HIS ORIGINAL CELLOPHANE HOLDER
    WOW...

I fixed his spelling mistake, seller spelled 'OLS' instead of 'OLD'. You'll notice seller specifically states "....still in HIS original cellophane holder". I'm sure seller is referring to the cellophane being the 'old man's' cellophane. The description is true, seller isn't CLAIMING it is 'original U.S. Mint cellophane', and seller IS stating it's the 'old man's' cellophane. However, it does appear he might be alluding that it is Mint cello....seller is fishing for those that don't know any better to think it's 'special'. Is this another way of buying the 'holder', not the coin, as Teddy brings up?????

I'd have to disagree. The word "original" crosses the line. An old man putting the coin in cellophane holder in the 1950's (I had a conversation with seller via Q&A.. he's playing fast & loose with his description) doesn't make it "Original". It is not original to the coin, which is what is for sale. The coin did not originate with the cello wrap.
Seller claimed in q&a that this old fella put it in the cello between 1936 and the 1950's or some such.... still, decades after the coin was minted. There is nothing "original" about it.

And I would call BS to that anyway... that cello wrap doesn't look decades old.

Well, agree or disagree, the seller IS playing fast and loose, but is in no violation. That's good enough to ebay, and that's that. In the end, it doesn't matter what WE think, it only matters what EBAY thinks. Sad thing is, NOBODY knows what ebay is thinking anymore, I wonder if ebay even knows what ebay is thinking anymore. Just can't make SOME sellers do the right thing...how else would they sell???

I don't honestly know if it is or not.. I didn't report the guy. Ebay hasn't had to make a determination, unless of course the buyer decides they don't like being misled, and wants their money back.. in which case... its kinda hard to defend a title, and parts of the description, that claims its an original wrapper on that coin. The honest term would be "the coin has been stored in a protector for decades!".. not.. "the coin is in the original wrapper!"
