Been there, done that. I bought a roll of BU common date morgans on eBay around 2006, oh man, was that a teaching moment. Lost probably 20% of my money on that deal when I sold them back to eBay after my delusions of making big $$ by getting them graded at NGC. A painful lesson, but I learned it well.

    Good times, good times...

p.s. @BooksB4Coins I was "the one fella (in the other thread)" with the boring comment. Still think its boring. I am not trying to be disrespectful, I just think leaning-on-the-job is more beneficial than you give it credit.

I know... and thought you would recognize yourself; all is good. ;)

And just for the sake of clarity, I am not at all against one buying, but if they do so before knowing what they're doing, they need to buy wisely so that they get the best of both worlds. Really, it is generic advice tailored to no one in particular.

I think most people who start in the hobby have this same thought, me included. Like we're smarter than the rest of them....

I learned very quickly that business model is a recipe for disaster if you don't know what you're doing. I didn't start out buying key date raw coins, but I did buy a couple common date Morgans that didn't work out too well. Didn't lose a lot of money, but learned some valuable lessons.

If you like buying raw coins, make sure you find a reputable dealer that you can build a relationship with over time. Also, buy the book before the coin.

I think getting into numismatics as a dealer at the very beginning is a recipe for disaster. I was a collector for several years before purchasing my first coin for resale purposes. Come to think of it, everyone I know that has made money dealing in coins were collectors first and transitioned into dealing later.

Congrats. Consider yourself lucky. Many times you won't get your money back.

Man, you REALLY need to just slow down and STOP buying, man! And where you have the limited knowledge to simply KNOW that an '09 SVDB is a KEY DATE, and that's where it stops, that's a dangerous combination....you can't possibly know even a single diagnostic! This goes for EVERY key/semi-key date...hell, ANY date coin, just PLEASE, for YOUR sake, STOP...take some time to learn to make educated purchases (you'll be much better off in the long run....), and ALWAYS ask BEFORE you purchase. And if you really want our help, it WON'T help to BS us....you said in post #3:

    Now, you say this:

I'm going to guess you'll own the coin, as you are with the rest of them....if you are going to return this, why not the 1800 S1$??? Why waste ANY of your money if you CAN get it back????

Gotta be brutally honest here if you truly want to learn. Is this the same woman you got the 1800 dollar from? How much did you honestly spend on these? WERE they from 'a widow'? Some of these individual coins seem, to me, like you got these from Craig's List. I know it's none of our business what you paid, but I'm betting you paid a lot more than you claim.

Dallas, please put your cards on the table, for GOD'S sake stop buying for now, and unload that thing (though I think it's a Google image....), as you've made it clear you like to bend your elbow...alcohol & loaded guns do not make great bed partners.

And, ask BEFORE. Can you give us an honest list of what you actually bought from this 'widow'? And, I made my thoughts on being a Craig's List purchase, but I won't go there, but one SAGE piece of advice....a NEWBIE with little to no (stressing NO here) knowledge, should NEVER EVER buy from CL. Even slabs are faked, and I'm sure you couldn't 'spot the fake slab'. Personally, CL is a 'no shopping zone', at least for coins, for me.

You have taken the first step, that's asking for help, so you can learn. Now take the second, and ask BEFORE you buy, but you really shouldn't be buying right now, raw or graded. DEFINITELY stop buying raw, IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE!!! And, at the very least, as far as buying slabbed coins, be honest, Dallas...if I put a fake PCGS slab next to an authentic one, could you tell the difference? I'm guessing not, and there are very good fakes of PCGS slabs....and then you have NGC..... If you truly want to learn, put your cards on the table. Our (at least my) bark is worse than our (again, at least my) bite. It might not seem it, but I'd love to be one of those that help you, but you have to be OPEN to it, and not go off on a spending frenzy and winding up with coins such as those you have shown us, even though you are being advised to stop. Help us help you. And for God's sake, you should probably not go online at all when you have a 'glow on', let alone a full blown 3 sheets to the wind. C'mon, admit it...the alcohol suggested you offer me your SSN to prove you are a newbie!!! LOL! Again, help us help you. And, I'm going to ask just this once flat out...Were these 'widow' coins, or any of the rest of them, bought from a Craig's List listing (God, I hope you say 'no', but don't appease me/us....)??? Truth???

Sorry for rambling, but I've 'seen this movie' too many times. Not opposed to helping someone who truly wants to learn, but I've seen one too many 'hopeful' newbies get turned off because they made one too many dumb purchases, who ask for help, say yes (nodding like one of those car rear-deck dog bobbleheads) and do it anyway. Dallas, the help IS here, but YOU have to WANT it, and follow it once you DO get it....show us you do, man!!! There, I'm done.....now I'll climb into a hole because most of you will probably think I'M the one out of my mind (no offense, Dallas!).

Oh, and Dallas...ALL of us started from not knowing a damn thing...we've ALL made purchases we'd just as soon bury our head over, so, we've all been where you are.
