I was kidding about the ssn, of course. I was also NOT trying to 'troll' or fishing or whatever. I'm inexperienced in coin collection, I can't get the 'I' word out of my mind but if that's was only thing I was after, I wouldn't be here taking all this you know what they are throwing at me. I learned more for a last few days about coin collecting than for the few years I have been holding my silver coins, I was never a collector and now I get a glimpse of it.

I bought this Mercury set at the end of 2011. I bought it for melt (but I don't recall the price of silver in December 2011). The 1921 made the purchase a no-brainer.
Mercury Album.JPG BTW, I do have a complete set of mercury dimes. My 1916-D is a slabbed VG.

Here is a 1921-D full bands that I sold a couple years ago. It was in a MS62 FSB holder. [I don't sell many coins & this was a good one].

Edit to add: Just checked the price of silver in December 2011 compared to today's price. It was about $30 per ounce compared to today's price of about $20 per ounce. Perhaps it wasn't such a great deal I got in 2011. :banghead:

That's nostalgic. I had that folder when I was a kid. I think I only managed to get a dozen coins into it, but I was collecting from change, and Mercury dimes were circulating less and less in the 60's. By the early 70's, you could find a few silver Roosies, but that was it.

I'll take it a step further and say it tells me all I need to know about the poster and ANY of his threads. He put a sad face at the end of that post. He was admittedly drunk when he said it, and was serious, thinking it would help prove he was a newbie?!?!?!?!?!?!?! (I don't have a CLUE as to how that would prove he's a newbie, but people say the strangest things when drunk, and that is one that really takes the cake).

I also have to wonder.... wouldn't an album filled with Merc dimes bring more than just a C-note??? Given there was a '21 and '21-D (let's forget there MAY be a '16-D), that album is worth more than $100, hell, just in silver content alone it is. May NOT be a troll, but admitting he's drunk, buying crap while convincing himself he's getting a steal...we KNOW he's forgetting everything he's told/advised about after getting hammered. I'm not trying to belittle this guy (well, maybe it looks like it), but honestly, it's a lesson in futility when trying to educate a drunk person.....I wonder what he purchased after leaving the forum last night??? Dallas, care to tell us???.....and be honest, now. You came here for help, you've gotten some, and the only way to continue getting it, is to be honest with us, or the help you seek will just vanish.

Only thing I bought yesterday was a copy stand tripod so I can take better pictures. I DID buy that album for spot price, the seller nor the buyer (me) didn't know what we were doing. The same widow brought me all the fake coins, her husband kept it in a separate place so he might have known it but we certainly didn't. I did suspect the 1800 Bust Dollar was a fake and did tell her, and that was more less the limit of my knowledge in fake coins. I do drink and surf the net and I DO babble on forums but I have been honest. And I do joke around but I'm really not out to harm anyone. Thanks for being frank with me.

I take it this wasn't the set I lost on ebay last week then.
Two years ago in October I actually missed another 16-D for nearly melt.....of course I would have given the seller a jaw-dropping bonus, but still what a great find it would have been.
It was in a pile with several other 1916's at a "junk drunk" price and no reverse photo.....oh, the pain.

Wow, I haven't logged in for awhile and I came back to this!

Have we found out anything about this suspect coin?

Look, OP, it is becoming more and more rare to find a key coin in raw state. The vast majority of them are counterfeit. I don't go bargain hunting anymore; I just save my money and buy a certified coin.
