Howdy All, I was lookin' through my very small collection of large cents (two ) and was looking at one of them graded Fine. I whip out a grading book and looked up how to grade it. I must say this coin looks better than Fine, well the reverse anyways, any thoughts? Again the pictures are blurry (ugh). And I'm trying out a new technique on taking pics of coins, tell me how you like the pic please. Thanks, Aidan
Pics are pretty good, though the obverse shots are a bit blurry. I'd call it F15 based on photograde, though the digs on the obverse would concern me if I sent it in for grading.
If you compare it to the PCGS photograde, I believe it has obviously less wear than their VF20 picture. See http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/BraidedCent/Grades
The reverse of the first picture still grades Fine. The thing to always look for in grading a braided hair large cent is the detail in the wreath. In your the entire reverse has some detail left but the wreath is worn.
I might have to take my comment back and grade the coin a VF detail grade just for the scratch on the obverse. Nice coins you have!
I'm not sure I'm missing the obvious or it's due to the blurry pictures, but I don't see an obverse scratch? Approximate location (e.g. 11:00 rim, center cheek, etc)? I call the coin F-15 - VF-20.
I see it now. To me it looks like the edge of another coin dinged it. I personally wouldn't call it a "scratch". The pictures are a bit blurry, so who knows. Thanks for the reply.
