Civil War Tokens: Yankee Robinson

Does anyone know each variety of Yankee Robinson Civil War Tokens and their rarity and attribution numbers? I have the Civil War Tokens Red Book but it does not say each type there. It mainly just states that there are a lot of different types. Thanks guys!

I don't think they are in Fulds store card book as they are classified as new discoveries . As I have the red book and both Fuld books I'll do more reading as The Illinois store cards go from 690 to 695 with no #s in between . Thanks to alerting me to this token as I am from Ill. and will try to find out .

 

Upon further reading , these are believed to have been struck no earlier than 1869 , thus would not be considered Civil War Tokens which must be struck during the war years .

 

I will try Rulau s token book for tokens from 1700 to 1900 .

 

No some were struck in 1863 and 1864

 

I think some were struck using Patriotic dies with those dates but seem to have the triangle reverse dated 1869 . Though I could be mistaken , but don't think so . Hopefully I can find something more definite . But I will foreword this thread to some others .

BRandM has it right, just add OH to the beginning of those ID's. Yankee Robinson's Big Show was in Cincinnati, OH before moving to Illinois post Civil War.

But how can you tell which one is which? Are there any pictures?

 

The Fuld reference shows pictures of each die used. Back in the 1960's when the book was updated pictures were done in black and white and they can seem small compared to today's printing technology.

The Civil War Token Society will be issuing an updated version (3'd Edition) hopefully yet this year.

What part of the Red did you find it?

 

If you're an AMA member they probably have the book to borrow , though like Bill said the pics leave a lot to be desired . Though did you google them .

 

On page 88 of the Redbook of CWTs they have a couple of decent pics but that's all . I kept seeing Peoria so I thought Ill. But they are basically the same with him in a top hat holding a rifle with the triangle reverse . Though 165EZ-2 doesn't have a picture . All the others have an R-1 for the copper , R-9 for the Bronze , R-8 for the tin , R-10 for Cupro nickel . The last 2 are copper and R-7 but has an incused hand that is shorter and divides the date 1863 .

 

When I looked it only shows the few pictures. Is there a page where they list the types?

 

That's what I get trying to do 2 things at once . Theres another page with a different pic . 165EZ-14 has a bust of a man facing right with Yankee Robinson at the top , the reverse is similar but the date 1869 and the hand points left . This one is an R-4 with a reeded edge in copper . Wish I could be of more help . I'll check here tomorrow though .

 

The only ones in the book that show the rarity show as R-4. It's only 3 of them. The book is honestly very confusing when it talks about these coins. they mention a couple different varieties but they arent complete. It will either give you a Fuld number or a rarity. Usually not both. Or at least its not clear if its both.
