Just picked this out of a group of common circulated Ikes...never seen a Triple Talon Head. Can't find eBay records of one, and the Ike Group Forum is down for updates. Anyone know more about the rarity of a triple (I've found plenty of singles, and seen photos of doubles...but never a triple.) Thanks!
Three times as much as a single talon head! I would imagine that a triple clash talon head IKE would command a few extra bucks. I sold all my single talon head IKEs years ago. There really wasn't a market for them, but there may be one for a triple clash one.
That's definitely an "in your face" triple talon head! Get it graded as I'd be willing to bet that you'd attract some serious money for that specimen! Don't ask me because I'll be bidding.
So, I'm picking up on a little enthusiasm there... NGC okay? Will they attribute the die clash? (Because I was already going to send a group in next week...) Not even a ballpark estimate, though? Even if I said pretty please?
Nice Find STL. I just got the new IKE book, when I get home I will dig it out and see if this is included in it.
Ben, what you have is a unique coin. I have never seen one and I have been a serious collector of IKEs for many years. 19LYDS is even a bigger collector and if he is excited then you know you have something big. I just looked through the 700 page IKE book and couldn't find anything in reference to a triple talon IKE. It doesn't mean that another one does't exist, but lets just say that they are not common. Very hard to put a price on it because this will be something that is driven by customer demand and interest. As far as grading services go thats a tough question because I don't think that NGC or PCGS would recognize this. You would have to call them and see. I would recommend trying to call PCGS first and see what they will do for this coin. The ultimate recognition would come from ANACS as they have John Roberts who is one the key IKE guys out there. THey always note everything on the label. All my IKE varieties that I have that PCGS and NGC won't recognize automatically go to ANACS. Good luck and keep us posted. BTW, what do you think it would grade at?
Jay, Cool - that's what I was looking for (an idea of whether or not this was cool enough to bother with the grading process.) I got a bit of that from 19Lyds...but this is all good news. If two guys I KNOW are excited, then I'm excited. ANACS it will be, as it would probably be better to have the designation on the slab when it gets listed for sale. I'll have to check for any specials they have going right now... I'll do my best to get a couple photos for you guys today of the whole coin. I feel like it's an AU. All I have with me is the LED flash ring, no copy stand, so well see how steady my hands are today. You guys know I'm only asking for approximate values so I can gauge my level of excitement
Here are some photos of the entire coin, plus the TH from a different angle. I've done my best with the equipment available I also read on the Ike Group site that the ability to be seen from multiple angles is a good thing. I'm happy to demonstrate that these can be seen from at least 3!
I'm thinking this coin also has a "Moon Line" on the reverse (a variety I didn't know existed...) extending across the entire crater and down over the O in DOLLAR. Thoughts?
I'll also need to put an approximate value on the submission form/insurance form...just thought about that.
heres a triple http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/coinfacts.aspx?i=940887&sid=0 and heres where I found it from http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/showcase.aspx?sc=651
Thanks Rick! I appreciate you finding that one for me. It's a much different placement, though, so I'm wondering if these are both unique examples? (Obviously they aren't, but so far, maybe the only ones found?)
