You would still need to roughly double the true value just to break even but in concept yes I agree with you that this deal is much less a rip off then their average sale.
Last night Coin Vault had 4 PF70 Gold Kennedy's First Day of Release from each location. Scroll down for spectacular price. V V V V V V V V V V V V V Only $19,950!
Yea that's one you'd lose your shirt on for sure. I really feel the label market is going to crash and people who are paying for labels are going to find they only have a $1250 coin. To me thats a 15,000 loss right there.
The vault also had the first 4 coins sold at Denver. For.....$100,000! But, coin #1 was available by itself for only $75,000.
All the more reason to be informed and do homework. Knowledge is power. Or as my coin mentor once told me after I asked him how much a certain coin was worth, he replied: "It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it." yeppers
It's true a coin is worth what someone will pay for it. Problem is most people don't have the ability to hype a coin And sell them on these shister cable program's. So whoever tries to resell a coin vault coin will always end up taking a loss even if they get full retail.
Coin Vault blows, so why don't we start our own channel with value? Well Silver Town has big pockets and that would force them to be 'better'. I lost any inkling of every doing business with Silver Town now. Rip offs and they fund them.
If you owned that coin and someone offered that kind of money, I'm sure you'd take it, and sleep pretty good, too. I know I would.
Big difference between someone offering you that price and you misrepresenting the coin to be something it's not (like one of a kind).
I agree with this. @rickmp, that's the distinction you are missing. On information and belief, the media is reporting that coin dealers were responsible for paying actors to cause hype for the piece to make it seem more desirable than perhaps it is.
Coin Vault isn't the same without Robert Chambers. Still, the golden rule of this hobby is that TV shows are a colossal rip off.
I don't know about you, but I want to get my hands on that "leading numismatic catalog" they have to determine their prices. I'd also like to get Art & Coin TV's catalog as well.
I'm not saying its right for everyone but I understand why the buyer sees value in this coin and the plastic its in. 1. the owner of the 100k coin can claim "I have one of the first" and there is documentation to prove it. 2. there is no way to prove its "The First" coin minted, however it is without a doubt a coin that was among the first strikes. 3. now ask your self how much value would it add to the $10M coin that recently made history if you could prove without a doubt it was among the first strikes? I bet it would far exceed 100K. The owner that payed 100k is looking at the long term, historical value, its a concept that is not easy to grasp. High grade coins from today perfectly preserved, with documentation proving they are early release or first strikes will be worth more than the same coins without the proof...... Our great, great grand children will read these old message board archives and say wow that first gold Kennedy was cheap.
