I did not agree with its creation. I did not care for the mess which was created for it. I waited on Aug 5th and ordered 1 It was delivered. I appreciate the fact that I have it. But I don't particularly care for it. If it makes any sense at all, I like having it but I don't like the coin.
Personally, I don't like the fact that the Mint produced a coin that the average collector of limited means will never be able to afford. What this does is make it impossible for many collectors to complete a set of Kennedy's. The Mint did the same when they produced the 1995-W SAE. They don't give a damn about the average collector. The US Mint $uck$! Chris
I don't really like these coins either. I appreciate their existence, perhaps filling the void for Kennedy collectors of having a "holy grail" coin, but they aren't exciting to me. Modern, Pricey, Unlimited mintage, Never going to circulate and thus made to be a collectable. BUT, I do however like the amazing classic coins I'm able to now purchase having sold these modern pieces of bullion at the show for a terribly inflated price
I collect Kennedy's and have been saving for a long time for this. I have mine and I do like it. Glad I bought it...
Yeah I've never thought it was a particularly interesting design (not that any of the other presidential busts are).
If I wanted a gold Kennedy half dollar I can buy one that was gold plated for a fraction of the overpriced bullion coin. Send it in to PCGS for a "Gold Enhanced" label and make tons of money selling it to the guy who paid 100K for a 3/4 ounce bullion coin.
I might agree with you but in 1995, I don't think there was really that much focus on including the 1995-W in the SAE Proof Sets. It certainly wasn't in my plans and I recall the offering. I was perfectly happy with my 1995-P. I don't think this coin really took off until certain "TPG's" required it in a registry set.
My position is that I now own a "white elephant". The only .999 fine 24K gold coin I have. You see, I'm just not a gold collector. I would have appreciated a 40% Gold Kennedy? I would have really appreciated the dual date on all 7 coins. But, like I said, I've got it but I do not necessarily like it. When the silver set comes out, I'll put it in my Dansco like I'd originally planned and then cart the freaking box around until they have to liquidate my estate. That's the other thing about the coin. That freaking box! It's a space waster but its really cool looking. Not the typical Lacquer Jobs that the SAE's came in but a nicely finished presentation case. The problem is that I have no one to "present it to" so the case is really kinda pointless other than being another dust collector in the closet. One of these days, the US Mint is going to announce some program and I'm just not going to care.
Well I guess everyone can be irked with how it went down, but I for one waited excited for months for this one. It was only my second purchase from the mint. The first being the 2014 P&D High Relief Unc sets. I do not regret it. The closer I look at it the more I see the quality. As a side note, my P Sac dollar looks MS68, I say that because I can not find a scratch. The Mint is getting better with quality. I also will order the silver sets this year.
I was not in favor of the launch of the gold Kennedys. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere in my collection. I don't have any other gold coins (that I intend to keep). But I felt I had to get one to complete my Kennedy collection. Mine looked great when I received it, and it's on it's way to NGC. I also ordered a couple pairs of the UNC Kennedys and as others have said, the QC on those was nothing close to the gold Kennedys. One set had a bunch of stains on them, as if they'd been rinsed in something and then it left waterspots or something else on the surface. Thankfully, the 2nd set was in better shape, so I sent that off to be graded. We'll see how they come back.
