Gotta get it first was a stacks bowers purchase along with 2 trades and a pretty seated quarter. An NGC ms 66*
Quit buying my quarters Just bought this one from Gerry Fortin. Never even made it to his site thanks to GeekPryde
Many of the 57th St hoard coins are coming out with very original surfaces. As long as they are graded right, most of them should sticker over at CAC or at least that's what I feel like I'm seeing.
That's what I'm seeing too they didn't mess with these coins so most have pleasing color!! Which is what I'm all about!!
I don't know about 'pleasing color'. I have seen several with too original surfaces for my taste. And by that I mean that ugly dark gray patina or too splotchy of toning or spots of some sort that no one doctored off along the way. Don't get me wrong, I see nice surfaces, but at some point it can a few of these coins may have needed a little work before slabbing.
I guess I just don't pay attention to those is color that grabs me if I'm scanning pics that's what I look for
NGC PF68*RD 1971 S Doubled Die Obverse FS-102. NGC has graded 92 examples with 7 at PF68RD and 2 at PF69RD. Not sure how many of the star graded examples there are. This coin is the result of a Class II distorted hub doubling. Very strong doubling can be seen in "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and Lincoln's portrait. This was a sleeper coin from a Heritage Auction that I bought. The price was so low I am not sure if anyone but me was following it. Top picture was from HA's listing and the bottom is with my cheap digital camera. I do not think HAs pictures did this coin any justice because you can barely see the doubling in their picture. Most of my collection is modern Lincoln's so I try hard too post some worthy too be called coin porn
1959-2008 mint state/circulation issue coin porn. I can only speak from the NGC side of the house so here are a few numbers for you. NGC has graded 112,980 1959-2008 proof Lincoln Memorial coins with 7444 achieving the highest grade of PFRD70 Ultra Cameo which is the top grade given by NGC for this series. On the mint state/circulation issue side of the house NGC has graded 73,796 coins with only 16 achieving the grade of MS70 (covering only 3 dates). It seems after around 1983 the amount of proof coins that reached the top grade continuously increased yet the number of mint state coins stay at a miniscule amount. Granted that about 49,000 more proof coins have been submitted than mint state coins, I am not sure that the amount of mint state coins will ever catch up within this series at the perfect grade. Finding coins at MS69 with a population of less than 10 is tough. Population of 5 or less even harder. Currently out of the 124 coins in this set, which is 100% complete, I think there are only 5 coins that I do not have in the top grade. Here are my population 1 coins within this series. Still looking for the elusive perfect one. If you would like too check out my 1959-2008 Lincoln Memorial Circulation Issue registry set here is a link too my NGC set which has been ranked #1 for the last few years.
