Because I see them for sale all the time with no one buying them. Look, I don't want to keep arguing about this. I just wanted to share my new coin, not argue whether it's nice enough for some people.

nobody is arguing here. you just made it sound like no one liked the other countries. people might be saving up their money for higher grades. about your new coin...are you truly happy with it or would you want it in better grade ? I am not judging you at all. I myself have a few lower grade coins. when I buy a coin I always ask myself is this the right price ? is it a good price ? does it have great eye appeal ? will someone be interested in this coin years from now ? this is just my opinion. when I first started out I would buy many low grade coins then found out later on that I was not happy with them. that made me want to buy higher grades now. I do understand if it's a key date and that all you can afford then yes buy it. if you are happy buying lower grade coins...great....cause that's all that matters. just so you know...I really enjoy looking at your world coins in here. :blackalien:

When I buy a European coin here, the question of whether it is sought after elsewhere in the world is not really an issue for me. Once in a while it may be interesting to buy a piece outside Europe and have it shipped (or bring it) here, but in most cases it is not worth the effort. (Depends on what one collects, of course.) I may well buy a coin in a lower grade if it really fills a gap, but I think that in many other cases I would just be angry at myself later, when faced with the question of whether I should buy the same coin in a better grade. ;)

Back to the topic, ahem, here is a newly issued piece that I just got myself. (Image from the mint, but it arrived today.) It is a Finnish collector coin from a series dedicated to ethics. The first issue in that series (2009) was about Peace and Security, others were about Multiculturalism, Protecting the Baltic Sea ... This year's issue is about Literacy. You see the Latin alphabet, Braille characters, musical notes, binary code, but also (on the other side) patterns from cave paintings. Usually I do not buy those surcharged collector coins, but I find the theme quite interesting and like the design.

I paid $1.50 over melt for this Half Crown. It's not in the best shape but I didn't have a George IIII. :)
