1859 Pattern Half Dollar PCGS PF62 CAC

Well since I can't afford a Pacquet $20 that might be the coin for me. The obv design seems a little stiff but I really like the reverse with that ribbon swingin' eagle.

Weird looking coin. Body, head, and arm proportions are all out of whack.

Is a beauty of a coin!! I've never collected patterns but I love them wouldn't mind owning a few. Vic's make me drool every time I see them!!

 

Doesn't change the fact that Liberty's proportions are all wrong. Makes you wonder why they let it go so far without correcting that.

 

Yes... and her head is disproportionately large.

 

They did correct it. This pattern never made it into circulation. Remember patterns are trial pieces. They were more liberal about experimenting back then.

 

If they'd got her head and face perfectly proportioned it'd be an absolutely stunning design

 

One day I hope to be able to afford such a nice coin.
