Very nice and congratulations on completing the set. Many people start out to get a set, but few complete it. Here is mine:
I cheated a bit and didnt bother with the usual AS of Claudius or a Tiberius Tribute Penny, it's not to say I wont add them in time, but mostly due to budget I got what I could afford.
Very nice! Not sure if I am going to count this one for my set or not. It'll be a while before I get Galba Other or Vitil.
Congratulations! It must feel good to complete your set. I have five more to go - I should stop buying more coins of Nero and focus on the remaining emperors
Sucks gravitating towards only one thing when you wanna finish something else. I ended up with another Pius denarius but it filled a want for a certain reason. Got awhile before it arrives though. I have alot of Pius additions this year :/
Excellent accomplishment! Kudos to both Mat and Bing for their completed galleries of Suetonius' subjects of history and historical gossip. Especially post-Caligula, I've enjoyed seeing the engravers' portraiture of this ancient group, and often wondered how similar these likenesses were to the actual person. Does either of you have a favorite coin or emperor from your group?
Thanks. Favorite, Claudius. Probably the least favorite by others. But dont really care. Its pretty rare and ended up becoming a wildwinds plate coin and it was just a $25 buy on a VC dealer site and one that started this 12 caesars kick. I just really like it the most. It was my cheapest too, go figure. My Tiberius is pretty close though. Favorite emperor of the bunch, good old vitellius. I just like his history of what was written of him. Ate more then ruled. I myself love food so I can relate.
It's a hard choice but I suppose my favorite would be Caligula followed by Claudius, followed by Galba, and then Otho. But that's not to say I like the others much less. The portrait coin of Julius Caesar was hard to come by in a decent condition and at a decent price. This one is ex Andrew McCabe, so I suppose it is something special as well.
Awesome, well done Mat (and Bing) ... Ummm Mat, now you need to show their corresponding wives (I'm sure that you can do it, chick-coin guy)
I have Livia: Livia (30 B.C. - 29 A.D) IONIA, Ephesos Æ 16 Magistrate, Aristeas Asklepiades O: Draped bust of Livia right, hair in a bun. R: EFE GRAMMATEUS ARISTEAS ASKLHPI-ADHS in five lines across fields and in exergue, Stag standing right. 3.8g 16mm RPC I 2576; SNG Cop 367 I also have Neros wife on the tetradrachm already posted. Some others didnt have coins issued of their wives and ones that did are super expensive and out of my range.
Okay, I hear ya ... Ummm, but maybe you could create a female coin equivalent? ... Sure, I admit that it may not be quite as accepted as the 12 Caesars, but who knows, eventually it may be another yardstick to be measured by? ... => Mat's Infamous "12 Chicks"
