The 50 rupee is 0.500 silver (Krause 50) and the 10 rupee is 0.800 silver (Krause 90). The actual date of the 10 rupee is either 1968 or 1970. Both have mirror finishes, but I don't know if they are proof or uncirculated. Anyone know?
They are definitely proof-like, but I was wondering whether they were proof or not. Since I don't have the mint packaging, is there any way I could tell?

My daughter married a guy born in India but raised in Singapore. They went to India for Christmas in 2014 and I asked them to search around and bring me some coins. His mother said they shouldn't do this since coins are so "dirty", so they brought me some paper money instead..hmmmmm.

Yes, I believe so. Is modern India really bringing the crazy prices I see on eBay and Amazon? It looks like a bunch of coins going for $5 to $50 that were bringing 20c to a dollar a few years ago. Early republic stuff from the '50's is even crazier.
I have a bag of 1977-C 5p aluminum coins that always listed for pennies apiece. There's nothing special about these coins and there's nothing even close to Gem. Most are poorly struck and unattractive. I saw a similar single coin on eBay go for $5!!! Right now I'm thinking I should hang onto all the Gem India I can find and sell the other stuff into strenght. The Gems are really tough for most issues but I always picked them up when I saw them. What I find so surprising is that I never considered most India to be very rare but some of the pricing suggests it must be scarce. The 1954 R for instance lists for $35 in XF. I know this coin is quite scarce in Unc and might be rare in Gem but it never occured to me it could be a $35 coin in XF. And what's going on with the large 2 A's? The cheapest chBU is $80. I think I have to be a seller at these levels for most of these coins. By the same token though some of the pricing looks to be far too low. This applies to most of the rupees and Gems. I could never find rupees even with intensive effort and advertising.
