Won this from Krypotonite last night. It is my first ever large cent purchase so I would like some opinions from some of the large cent collectors here.

To me it appears to be original and I think it has a nice appealing even tone to it. I'm not sure what it would grade as, I think Kryptonite had it listed as a VF. Either way I like it and am excited to get it in hand.

Well that's embarrassing. What is that coin called?
I thought all cents before the FE were referred to as large cents?

That is a nice example of what appears to be an original large cent. I'm not sure what you paid, but it looks good. Better pictures would allow me to attribute it for you.

Thanks for the offer aubade. When I get it in hand I'll try to get better pictures of it, although I don't think I will since Kryptonite's are always really good.
With shipping I paid about 24 for it I think.

Not before the FE cents came along, they weren't . . .

A very nice coin, probably VF20, and a slam dunk for F15. You have a good eye . . . I just wouldn't expect to find a lot more dates looking like that.

Yes, it is true, he worked on the die.

His resume included a reference letter from Julius Caesar for his die work.

  16. That's a nice looking one! I love the tone.

Looks like a good large cent to me. Fields are maybe a little bit porous but has good eye appeal overall.

Nice original coin some circulated cameo action going on but I don't see enough porosity in the fields to call it enviro damage. I'd call it vf -20

Nice pickup. I see it as a VF. Gotta love large cents.
