To purchase the Gold Kennedy Half Dollars on release day. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...ver-mint-before-sunrise-to-buy-gold-jfk-coins The dealers name is Kevin Lipton. There is a Kevin Lipton on the PCGS Board of Experts. Shameful action.
Just curious, but the article mentions this happening in Denver and nothing of the dealer you mentioned. Wrong article? Or am I missing something? "Some buyers said they were paid as much as $600 to stand in line for the coins" They could have been paid by friends to get the coins.
You have to watch the video. At the 44 second mark it mentions the name. So, yes, you missed something.
I was talking about the home page. I see that they rotate the members now. He was on the home page last night. Thanks for the correction.
Some of the people in line were dressed like they could not afford to have $1240 in their pocket to buy a Gold Kennedy.
There were some flea markets I used to go to where I dressed accordingly to match the crowd there so I would not get robbed. I know a guy who never has less than 5k cash in his pockets when he goes to the flea markets.
I do not know that the Board of Experts meets on a regular basis. I don't even know if the members of that board even get "paid" anything as much as they act as "consultants" for opinions on this or that. I DO know that this Board of Experts consists of mostly active Coin Dealers and that having your name on that list can be a Plus for business. As for the actions of this particular Dealer, if I were PCGS, I would want to distance myself from him since this gives PCGS a black eye just out of association. PCGS's primary business model is based upon a "public perception" of being a guiding influence in the coin grading industry. As such, they can make of break certain coins. Coin Grading is all about "opinions" but if folks don't care for your "opinion" for whatever reason, it could hurt you. IF the public "perception" changes, then their business could possibly be affected which in turn could affect the value of certain coins. I'd really hate this since my collection is not all that diversified in the slab arena. Of course, this isn't the first time that PCGS had what appeared to be a bad apple in their midst as one of the "Coin Doctor's" which they filed suit against was a founding member of PCGS which was surprising.
I have to wonder if PCGS would have made and issued a special label for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th coin sold if it had been anybody else then a member of their “Board of Experts”? This whole label thing is laughable, why would anyone pay extra for it?
One can only wonder how many of the PCGS Board of Experts use that position to further their positions. Without a doubt it is laughable and IF the transaction actually occurred then all I can say is they suckered a person that could afford it. Any guesses on what an open auction might bring?
