After all the crazy talk of a coin vault buyer paying 100k for that silly label (who buys labels instead of coins someone needs to smack PCGS and tell them to stop this stupid hype crap) I decided to tune into Coin Vault the last 2 days. Most of there coins are way over priced like a I remember and the guy can get on your nerves after awhile (talking about how China and Japan are making all these solar panels out of silver and how the heck is silver not $100 and ounce much less $500 an ounce) and lo and behold they put a coin up that I actually considered buying. They were selling MS66 PCGS graded 1938D Buffalo nickels for $69.95 I mean its a little bit of a markup as these have a FMV of around $63 so I mean a $5 markup really isn't that bad for such a nice coin. I nearly pulled the trigger until I heard $9 shipping and was like no thank you you just jumped the coin t0 $80 and I bet I could find one on ebay for $60 with free shipping. Man $9 for shipping reminds me of the older days on ebay where you could pretty much charge whatever you wanted for shipping and you would see people try and snag someone not watching the shipping charges thinking they were getting a good deal.
FMV of $63? Try this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/HJB-1938-D-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557. And the shipping was free.
It’s clear from knowledgeable collectors’ opinions, like those on CoinTalk, that some dealers take advantage of the ignorant (kinda like FOX News). Best advice I’ve heard is stay away from these dealers. Hopefully they’ll go out of business before they damage the hobby too much. Unfortunately, there appears to be a never ending stream of suckers keeping them in business.
Wow nice coin and nice price. I couldn't find any on eBay current auctions for less than 50 I bolt did a quick search though. Yea I just couldn't get myself to give these shisters money but that really isn't that bad of a price for a gorgeous coin you could lose your shirt 10 ways to Sunday buying from them this wasn't one of them.
Ending today, but I cannot guarantee they won't get more bids. 1938-D U.S. Buffalo Nickel MS66 MS 66 NGC Certified # 2623990-005 FREE SHIPPING 1938-D MS66 NGC USA Buffalo Nickel
The problem is, yeah, you wouldn't lose too much, is you received the coin pictured, but that won't happen. You'll probably receive an over graded 66 with a problem.
And is it safe to assume the media/news outlets you agree with cater only to the intelligent? No disrespect intended; I simply find the correlation a bit of a stretch.
Now, if you were a coin dealer, you'd have bought 20 for the $9 shipping fee's and then resold what you didn't want at a profit over a period of time.
Very ironic, that they have it listed as ms66 in many places in the listing if it was one time in the listing i could see it being a mistake in this case i would say they were trying to miss lead!! Also i think all you do on this forum is look for things to complain about and argue about, so i hereby give you the award of worst forum member ever.
MAbye you could make a positive post from time to time instead of always having attitude, but then again you (...) don't have anything positive to say so you best not say a word. You have started arguments on over 50 posts at least !! Edit - Watch your language.
So let me get this straight... it's perfectly acceptable for you to make a highly questionable accusation, which based on post #16 must be a "positive" in your mind, yet when a much more likely scenario is presented, you deem it a "complaint" worthy of throwing a fit over? I am sorry if you're unable to consider the fact that there is almost no upside of trying to "miss lead" on a coin such a this, and even more sorry if you really think the seller desperate enough to try something so stupid for what, in the best case scenario, would amount to chump change. Hey, I could be wrong, but I've a funny feeling that when the listing was active, if you had asked the seller about the discrepancy, you would have learned that there was no evil mastermind behind this would-have-been not so brilliant scheme to defraud. As for the rest, I'll take it as a compliment. Thank you. Now, Sean, that is what you call "irony".
You can ebay bin a 1938 d buffalo pcgs 65 for $44 and a 66 for $55. I'm not saying that is their market value but it gives you a fair concept of the spread between the grades. Hjb is a pretty reputable company. it is highly unlikely they are trying to cheat you out of ten dollars. You might owe someone an apology.
Thats what I was thinking just odd that for once it didn't seem like coin vault had a massive markup that you would lose your shirt on in the long run, heck eventually you might recoup your costs on that one coin.
