Just thought I'd leave something in my post that you could read whatever you wanted to read into it. Since that's what you did in the post you found "ridiculous."
True, but I'm not expecting moon money for these. If they get anywhere close to a 31-s, I'd be surprised. But, a roll at somewhere around $20/coin would be nice.
Well yeah, these Kennedy's will probably be high mintage, but there are many modern NIFC coins that have very low mintages, that should not be overlooked. Some only collect coins intended for circulation, but many of the rarest and most valuable coins were NIFC.
Now factor in inflation. In 1913, the year the Federal Reserve was established, what cost $1 >>> NOW costs $24+. See www.usinflationcalculator.com Also, since there has been no technology, convenience, or obsolescence factor with coins, there's no adjustment for an "improved" product. A "coin" then, a "coin" now. Something like an automobile or a refrigerator (actually, an icebox), huge adjustment factors. The factor happens to be extremely accurate for postage, too; 2c in 1913, 49c in 2014.
Collecting coins not intended for circulation is like a 94 year old paraplegic marrying a 20 year old cheerleader...
I have to respectfully disagree while I assume you are referring to this kind of modern I find patterns quite lovely. Ps the Stella's are patterns
I think this might be more like comparing it to the comic book crash of the 1990's instead of beanie babies. Once beanie babies crashed people realized they were nothing but a little stuffing and beans where as these coins will still be gold and maintain some value. But if you look at the comic book crash of the 1990's you saw them mass producing covers and variants to try and create some hype and value that wasn't there (this wasn't like 1960's comics where kids mothers tossed them and they were truly rare these were mass produced and readily available). The comic book industry is still recovering. I am afraid these label collectors are heading towards the same fate, PCGS is creating false demand and getting greedy and releasing more and more of these until they will crash the market on them.
Exactly why I have no interest in either there way too common. I'll stick with my early coins like trades that usually have a problem free population of a few hundred in all grades or coins like my 1850 seated. Dollar with a mintage of 7500 and most circulated and many were shipped to the orient. Modern coins I'd only buy at melt value period!!
And those are rare beautiful sexy coins!! Why I drool every time you post em. I don't as a rule collect much post 1900 and don't want anything presidential or post 64
