Been tracking a coin I bought on 8/5 being delivered First Class. Left Shrewsbury, Ma on 8/5 Arrived Springfield, Ma 8/8 Distance: 54 Miles I certainly hope I get it by Christmas!!
I wouldn't worry too much yet. As long as it doesn't drop off of the tracking system completely, I think you'll be fine. I've had stuff go from the midwest to the west coast and finally back to me in New Hampshire for successful delivery. It took an extra week or so, but it got here.
Just had two packages go missing (never scanned into the system) and one delivered to a PO Box in Cape Girardeau, MO (I live in Illinois...) I have so much confidence in the USPS right now I make them scan everything into the system by hand, every time.
Your comment of course is about it taking 3 days to only go 54 miles. Well, that's often to due to several things, one of them usually being the time it takes the mail to go from the local office, to a regional or district office, and then be sent on to it's destination, and sometimes going through another district office there before being put out for delivery. The point I'm getting at is that each post office has its own set of rules they have to follow depending on exactly where the original post office is. They all have to send letters and packages to another larger post office first and then distributed on to maybe another one. For example, when I lived in Salt Lake City if I mailed a letter to a destination that was only 3 blocks away from my home, or anywhere else within SLC, without fail it would take that letter 5 days to get there. But, if I took my outgoing mail to Park City, 50 miles away and where I worked, and mailed it there, without fail it would arrive at its destination in 2 days. Every single time. It's all because of the way internal logistics within the Post Office are set up. They have rules and they have to follow them.
Maybe you remember my stories from Salt Lake City...the birthday present for my ex-gf that went across the Atlantic 3 times...my postal carrier marking all my packages "undeliverable as addressed" for no good reason...
Maybe this is your problem: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/v...al-worker-delivers-mail-to-dumpster.wcpo.html
I'm not worried or concerned. Just made the post in a lighthearted manner. I realize the internal workings are sometimes cumbersome for the USPS. I recently purchased a coin from a dealer in NH and had it the following morning.
Its funny I just ordered a crowns of the world album left New York on Tuesday and made it to the west coast by today it says it delivered can't wait to get home and stick some coins in it
The results are in!! Left Springfield, Ma 8/8 Arrived Scarborough, Me 8/9 Distance 178 miles in 1 day! LOL Actually pretty good timing. Ends the week on a high point - a coin delivery.
I ordered a replacement part from China and had it arrive, by USPS, in 2 days. And it was NOT sent by overnight or next day shipping or anything like that. Just regular mail. 10,000 miles in 48 hours.
