I just received this coin to have a representative of 18th Century Spanish coins for the New World. I have previously posted the 2R coin that may or may not be genuine with ground or sea damage. I also have a certified 1R from the Cazador wreck. Here now is the late 8R. Sorry for the photos being a bit blurry...I snapped these quickly before work this morning. As usual, any and all comments are welcome! Rob
I know you said just kidding, but as a point of interest doubled die coins didn't exist back then since the dies were still made by hand, 1 at a time. Not so long ago I did some research in an effort to determine just when modern die production, using a hub, came into use. I never could pin down an exact date, but near as I could tell it was in the mid to late 1800s. edit - It can be said however that some doubling, and doubling from dies, does exist on older coins. But only when a punch just happened to be struck twice instead of just once. But when it happened that was a deliberate act, not an accident, which is what doubled dies as we know them are.
