    Hello guys!

I came across to loads of foreign coins and I got stuck on 8 of Japanese or Chinese coins. I am not sure what year they are, what country are they from, and how much are they worth. I am hoping that I'll get some answers. The photos are in the order.

Chinese - reproductions, fakes, souvenir pieces - not actual coins - couple of bucks each.

I looked some of them up and finally got to some. Some links explained how to identify fakes, reproductions, and souvenir pieces. I believe all of them are not souvenir pieces. To identify if they are fakes by the low quality/low imitation. All of them are sharp and in good shape, despise how it is worn out. I apologize for the low quality photos.

    How are they fakes?

    Thanks,

    Jeffrey

These coins are counterfeited a lot. The first thing I would do is put a decent magnet to them. If they stick they are not genuine.

The Pei Yang S$1 looks fake from the photo. It has that nickel shine to it. Bet it's magnetic.

Not true in the least. If that is your perception then fine you have a right to that opinion but, to tell people that as a general statement is irresponsible.

so your are telling me there are not tons and tons of fakes out there for China ? it is NOT irresponsible. It is a well known FACT. I feel it's my obligation to warn him now before he spends a ton of money on fakes. again this is an opinion that is shared by millions that collect coins. understand that most cheap coins will not be faked. as Ed Sims pointed out this is my opinion. buy at your our risk.

I actually wanted to say something about what you said as well. When it comes to these coins and I can agree. The way you said it though makes a person think you're talking about every coin out there.

ok agreed. I did NOT mean every coin. but be warned many coins out of China are fakes. I myself would not buy a coin from there if it was not slabbed by a TPG'er.

Sure, there are a LOT of Chinese fakes out there but to state unequivocally that ALL of the non slabbed Chinese coins are fakes is just not true. That is what is irresponsible.

Many Soldiers, Sailors and Marines who served in China during WWII and then were there during the occupation until 1949 brought home an unknown quantity of Chinese, U. S. and other foreign coins which are still in the veterans' possession and are now just beginning to surface as these men are dying off and leaving those coins to their heirs.

Most of these coins have not been professionally graded and these coins were brought back many, many years before the Chinese started to counterfeit coins as an industry.

I would agree that to say every Chinese coin is a fake is irresponsible but on the flip side of the coin I'd be very wary about buying unslabbed Chinese coins. I want to add a Chinese fatman dollar to my crowns of the world set and was looking at some on ebay and I just don't think I could pull the trigger on ebay for these as I don't have them in hand to examine before buying.

When I bought my trade dollar I spent an hour looking at it with detailed sheets printed out for what to look for and then left and came back a week later and spent another hour looking at it even though I trusted the dealer. You just can't do that with ebay. But if you got the coin in hand and do some research you can figure out fairly well if there fakes like the magnetic test.

Yea there is a lot of fakes out there but all ungraded coins aren't fakes, its definitely a buyer beware market though.
