Not looking for perfection but since I go through lots and lots of halves, I was wondering what the 'general' grade would be. You see the 1998D MS67 slabbed coin I have is pretty darn good only one grade better. These are 'special', even labeled SP instead of MS. So I had heard in another thread that they were terrible. So I was expecting SP65 maybe SP66. By my eyes, granted I need to study them more, these are SP67 minimum. I think I might have two that are SP68 and they are P mint. I will just keep studing them for now and comparing to my other slabbed coins of this type.

As for a variety, not really, I just noticed the blemish and saw it was on all of them. It was not on the 64 dies that I could see. I will compare it to some of my others and see if it is there. One can see it plain as day even though my picture was not the best.

On my 2014D I found a spot, I will not call it a milk spot but nonetheless it sure reminds me of them. Acetone did not kill it, a quick dip in E-zest did not either. I guess I am stuck with it. It really ruins the coin and I will have to check my others and see if they are on it. I think I saw another and it too was on a Denver coin. Still018.jpg

Now for the anomaly, here is a better picture of it. It does not look equal across all the coins but it is present. It was part of the die. Maybe it was meant to be a dimple or something... Still019.jpg

If someone has theirs to look at, please check and see if this mark is on yours also. If not then maybe it could be a variety. We will have to name it. I guess we could call it a dimple Kennedy.

Maybe I have a wierd sense of humor but I like the title on the slab.

    "Gold 50C" (Gold Fifty Cents)

Ok the anomaly is not rare. It is part of the original die. I have found it on 64 Business Strikes, 64 Proofs, SMS and Business strikes 65-69, a 84D, heck it even made it on D Carr's 63 half. However, in all cases it is NOT near as distinct as these 2014's and it is not on all that I saw. I saw 64's (Proof and Business strikes) with no trace of it and some 64's had a small trace of it. It did not make it to any the 90's and later when the change came.

So, this was part of the original design. Now it is time to speculate. As it would seem it is on all three of my Accented Hair's, and all three of my Accented Hair little brothers, this might be an early die sign. As the die wears could it be worn off?

What say you? Here is a pic of my PR67 Accented Hair with it and it was strong here but not anywhere near like the 2014 version.

I would love to come but I have to work. Plus the wife would kill me as we would be broke if I went.

Well it seems that the HSN has SP69's from ANACS on sell for $99. I had to look and sure enough, they have

"2014 SP69 ANACS P and D First Day of Issue Limited Edition of 1,964 2-piece Kennedy Half Dollar Set"

They have 1964 of these? Huh? SP69's just became junk if true.

hmmm "ESTIMATED DELIVERY on August 18" hehe they do not have them yet and they assume ANACS will SP69 them?

    Something is fishy.

There is a funny video on the page, watch it and giggle.

So let me get this straight, there are 1964 sets of P&D SP69 coins for sale, 8 days after issue. This means that HSN had 400 employees buy these, get them sent from the mint, then send them to ANACS for grading, then off to HSN for sale. Mind you I just got mine today and I ordered at 12:45 PM on the 24th.

    Something is wrong here.

Ok SP69 is a perfect coin, These are Accented Hair Matte finish coins. A SP70 will be worth $10,000, oh gee what else....this guy .is a joke. Seriously watch the video and see if you do not pee yourself laughing. The Gold PR70's will go for $6000. ROFLMAO

Still they graded 5000 sets, of which 1964 were SP69, its August 2nd. HOW?

If you wonder what will happen to the value of these guys, just take a look at the silver proof HOF's. They are now selling at $75 on the bay. I think they reached $200 during the March hype stage.

I'm sure HSN knows before they submit what percentage of 69'S they'll get.
I wouldn't put too much stock in that these are actually 69's. They're probably comparable to 67's from other TPG's. These coins are for the uneducated buyers that shop on TV.
Educated collectors know ANACS 70 grade ASE's generally sell for what NGC and PCGS 69's go for.

Very interesting video. 5000 people trying to get 500 gold at the show? I don't think so. This may see the end of handing out numbers at shows to sell coins. I think the next time will be lottery drawing for the chance to buy coins at a show. HSN may have been one of the outfits paying to gobble up bags of the coins on the 24th so they could do first strike. Maybe I can get some 70s at the show and get the 10k that guy said they would sell for. Maybe since ANAC has fallen farther down the barrel of graders they stoop to grading coins 69 that should be lower. I will be on the lookout for any already graded sets at the show and try to post a pic.

That would make sense then as most of mine would get SP67 and maybe SP68.

That would be cool, ask around and see how the TPG's got the volume of coins and see what you come up with.

That HSN video makes it sound like they used only ONE die since 1964 to produce all the .50 cent pieces till now and man is that die worn out now! I could only go about 7 minutes in to the 12 minutes.

That HSN video also states these 2014 halves are accented hair - the mint says they are not.

They are NOT the Accented Hair variety, that is why the video is such garbage.

Yep, makes you wonder where the line is between "hype" and fraud. Seems like anything goes these days.
