1974D Kennedy - Clipped Planchet?

Well I found this last night and I am just not sure. My gut tells me no but still I wonder. I love my new microscope and taking pics was a breeze. As I look closer, it appears to be 'cut', yet I see things that make me wonder. I know nothing of these types of errors so that is why I posted it.

Even if not, no matter as the wife and I found (44) 40% halves last night in two $500 boxes. All were found in one box except the coin in question here.

As a bonus I found a 1966 UK penny.

Thoughts? Comments?

I'm not sure, but that looks like it was cut with some kind of nipper. It's doesn't look like a smooth cut as would be produced by the punching process.


But I've been wrong before.

It looks like PMD to me, too. The Blakesley Effect means that you should see some weakness in the strike at about 8 o'clock at the rim and "I" of LIBERTY.

I did a cost analysis and found out that I lost money on it. Time, gas, re-rolling, etc. I understand why people do it and more power to the cherrypickers. Not really my thing. I have a good relationship with dealers and I don't pay too much over spot for 90% silver.

 

Really? That is cool and you have seen them in hand. Like I said, i just did not look like a 'punch machine' did it. Cool.

 

Oh we do it all right. We love it. It is not really for profit but hey, after 2 years we have found 100 Oz. She has found the best one so far.




We actually look forward to it. We race on four things,

(1) Most silver - usually wins bragging rights
(2) first to get a 1976 without being in the side of the roll. She wins this 60% of the time as she can spot them from the side better than I.
(3) Most NIFC....(not intended for circulation)
(4) First 76 and last 76 ( we do two boxes )
(5) Not really a race but the weirdest find. I thought I had the best until I found the 2nd guitar pick.

And that is not all really, I buy the Whitman folders and we start filling it in, removing worse coins and placing the better ones. We are on our 6th set now, looking for a good 87P that is worth keeping and we will start our 7th set.

We have got so good that we can really spot the stuff quickly. Found a few 82 NoFG, 74D DDO, etc etc.

She has found the oldest, a walker - 15 minutes after her first Franklin and I was teasing her that she hadn't found a Walker yet and then the very next roll.

Believe it or not, it is quality time for us. Every week we both look forward to Half night!
