I just received this in the mail today and am not only having trouble photographing the coin, but also in the attribution. I believe the reverse is Pax with a transverse scepter, but I am no way sure of this. Not counting the sprue, the coin is 17/19mm and 2.4g. Any help will be appreciated.
I believe you are correct about Pax. The style makes me wonder if it is Continental rather than the standard London or 'C' mint but I really know nothing about that. I have a similar item which I currently list as unknown mint.
cool usurper coins, i don't have any of this guy at all. i saw he had a few moneta reverse coins (if that's an "N" at 8 o'clock on the reverse)....but have no clue.
Well, now I will show my ignorance. I did not know Carausius coins were minted on the Continent. I guess I will have to put my research hat on. I don't know about that being an "N" Chris. It's awful hard to tell even in hand.
There are some odd 'waves' going on in the 9-12 o'clock area of the reverse that looks a lot like this coin, also attributed to an uncertain mint: https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=218157
http://books.google.com/books?id=Wc...EsQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=carausius mints&f=false This might be a good place to start. I have not read it all but in chapter 6 I believe he places the unmarked mint on the island rather than the continent.
It's kinda nasty lookin' => but definitely a very cool addition (lovin' the sprue!!) Cheers, big brother!! ... it has a tough-guy look to it (nice dark green patina)
It is rough little brother, but for the price well worth it. Thanks everyone for the help and especially to Doug for the link. Interesting read.
