Hey now that's an idea. You would naturally expect that since the sales are going to be at the Mint booth that is where the line would form. And they are not going to be able to stop a line from forming. So let it form, and then at one or two minutes before 11AM make the announcement that "The line for purchasing the JFK coins is now forming...." and give a location on the other side of the bourse floor. Everyone has to leave the line by the mint, go across the floor to the new location in order to get their ticket that they can then take back to the booth to buy the coins. Not perfect but it might help break up the advantage that those who get in early have. (Change line forming location each day so they can't anticipate it where it will form.)

Only downside might be people getting trampled as they rush from one line location to another.

I wonder if the purpose of 2 per day and only 500 piece per day is solely to make the big dealers say, "It isn't worth it."

It won't really matter since each of the TPG's is offering a Special Label commemorating the event. There WILL be buyers and even more money to be made since the labels will be limited to no greater than 2500 out of at least 40,000 pieces that will be ready before Aug 5th.

In their attempt to add regulation, they've created yet another desireable piece/label.

They need to STOP selling these coins at Coin Shows on Release Day.

    It is JUST THAT SIMPLE!

What's the real harm though with them doing this? A few people get upset? A few people make a lot of money? Where's the real harm? I think it creates excitement. This will be the first major show I go to, because of this release. If I don't get one (which I already accept as a possibility), I simply go and enjoy the experience.

You're absolutely right. However, you're hearing the backlash of collectors that ordered HOF Coin on release day yet did not receive them until 4 months and any possible resale values had gone by simply because of the US Mint selling them at Coin Shows.

As long as I get my coins in a timely manner, it won't bother me one whit but if I have to wait and wait and wait...................then I'll be pissed.

    At the US Mint.

    Again!

I don't think this is accurate. Yes, the premium over original price has dropped, but you can still make a profit on the HOF coins, especially if they grade as 70's....

    Ahhh.

Sorry, but I no longer play that "submit em for $24 to try and get a 70" game any longer.

I'm so damned bummed about my HOF Half Dollars that I haven't even opened the box I got from the Fulfillment Center yet late last week.

I don't see the profit in these. Yeah, maybe some will pay a premium for the label, but these will not sell out like the HOF's. Since there's no mintage limit, these could be very high mintage and see a price decline.

Your logic sound fine except that there have been many "mint to order" coins which have been sold out with relatively low mintages. I think the Jackie Robinson might have been 1. I know that the 2013 SAE Sets were mint to order but they came in under 200,000 sets.

How about that, according to Numismatic News the Mint is going to be doing what I mentioned above.

True, if the sales are low, they could be winners down the road, but, I doubt sales will be low. We'll be able to watch daily/weekly sales reports and know before the end of sales how low or high they'll be.

I thought the 2013 sets were somewhere around 235,000 sets (lowered from around 281,000). Have there been further updates?

Sheesh! The mint must believe collectors have unlimited storage space.

I only hope someone makes a video of the mayhem and posts it online, I'd like to see that! Well, okay, I also hope it doesn't turn into a Wal-Mart sale stampede.

Well this is stupid. Talk about causing a stampede...

Don't worry, the mayhem should make National News. 250 pcs is not very much compared to the thousands that go to the show. I expect lots and lots of "ruffled feathers".

  20. Got a post card advertisement from the US Mint yesterday for all 3 of the Kennedy 50th anniversary issues. No new info, but shows they are marketing them strongly. Let's just hope they are producing them ahead of time and deliver them in a timely manner.

Anyone else get the post card?
