How would you grade this 1942 Walking Liberty Half? The obvers has some toning that is not very pleasing and the big ding in Liberty's leg, but I'm not seeing a lot of wear and do see a lot of luster. The reverse is even better with a brilliant color that was hard to photograph. I adjusted the color and brightness a bit to bring the detail out better. Chest and wing look really good to me. Overall grade opinions welcome, as well as any comments. Thanks! Rob
Here are the seller's pictures. Maybe my photos are making things look bad. Does these change any opinions? The seller's description said "Gem BU". Rob
Oh joy, something I can actually help out with. Those spots are not toning, I think you would call them environmental damage. That coin was in the ground with something iron sitting on top of it. Can't tell what exactly but have dug them with nails or other things in contact with them. That is the result. Or was in a moist environment of some kind, possibly in a tin or something ferrous
The coin is ungradeable. I'd say XF details because the rev is more worn than the obv. And the coin looks to have not only been harshly cleaned, but polished as well.
Either the seller had no clue about coins or was lying to you. I would return the coin, as it's far from gem BU and the dark spots can hardly be seen on the seller's pics.
The REVERSE is more worn? Really? Doesn't look that way to me. Thanks for the input. Looks like it is going back.
