So I just got my lot of German 1/2 Marks today at work. My friend who I paid to buy them for me, brings them by my work at 8am. I open the package and inside behold was: 1918 A/D/E/F/G/J 1/2 marks, and 1908 A/D/E/J 1/2 marks. So I toss the package in my pocket. So lunch time rolls around, and as I get up from my station at work, I spill degreaser all over my pants, Freaking for my coin's safety, and also the burning of certain areas, I run to the bathroom. Pull everything out of my pockets, tend to my issues. Whew, coins are cool. Body burns some, but the coins are okay lol. I set the package on the soap dispenser on the wall, and proceed to wash my hands and as much of the degreaser from my pants. All of a sudden, I get paged to the office. I for some reason, absentmindedly walked away from the coins, and went to the office. YAY, I get offered a chance to work some O.T. Super, well I go back to what I was doing about 15 mins later. Remember, Oh no! my coins are still in the bathroom. So I briskly go towards the bathroom, only it is occupied. Mind you I work in a facility with 3 other men. The guy comes out, I go in. Lo and behold. No coins. I go to each of the men, and ask them if they found my coins, and had taken them to the office. The answer is no, all around..... I ask the woman working next to the bathroom, who takes staggered breaks. "who was the next person to use the bathroom after I did?" she says: " the person who had just come out" So I casually walk by this guy, and he instantly drops what he is doing, and stares at me. I say "What's up?" He says, hey dude, I don't have your *@#$ing coins, I know I was the last person in the bathroom, but it wasn't me." Sound suspicious? I think so. Anyways, I bring this to the attention of the G.M. who tells me: Do not bring personal belongings to work and this won't happen........ Lesson learned, I work with a thief. I hope he makes enough money from the coins, in order to avoid Karma.
I can't do that, I believe in Karma. Took me about 3 months to save up to snag all of those, but what can I do. I will save up and hopefully get a better deal next time. I just really feel dis-respected that the guy would lie to my face, and steal from me like that.
Not only do you work with a thief your G. M. should have handled it differently than how he did. It is not in the company's best interest to have a known thief working there as it will do nothing but breed distrust amongst all of the employees. You should have called the police immediately and without telling anyone you were doing so. He would have had his workspace and vehicle searched and your coins would have been recovered.
That is really, really unfortunate -- and yes, his answer is that of a guilty person who got caught. Normal people react with a "gee I wish I had them for you but I don't" kinda thing. Now you know.
Possibly, however I didn't want to complicate my business relationship. I just got promoted slightly. However what I have done, is call the only 2 local shops who buy coins, informed them of what I was missing. Gave them my number. I know the one shop owner, so that is nice. If they call me, I will then call the police with the details, and have them acquisition sale records. If the sale person matches a co-worker, I will then press charges, and they will be terminated I am sure. I do agree the G.M. should have said something to the other 3 guys, but I do agree with her, I should not have had them at work, but then again, I should not have to feel like a thief will steal my possessions while at work. I would venture to ask, do I need to hide my car for fear they will steal it?
People have packages delivered to work all the time, where there is always someone to sign for it. Having them there in and of itself wouldn't necessarily be out of the ordinary.
SKUM... I believe in karma but I might have killed him right there... NEVER MESS WITH SOMEONE COINS! Sorry about this...
Sorry to hear about your theft. I agree the co-worker sounds guilty. Tough position for the GM though. What would you have her do? If she asks your colleagues, would she not get the same answer? If she presses them, than she is taking sides with only your word against theirs. It becomes a he said, she said situation. I too believe in Karma and it certainly will come back to haunt whoever nabbed your coins.
Well, I wouldn't have her do anything to put her in the middle. I am pretty upset, but I look at it this way. I have called both shops, informed them. When they show up, as I am 90% sure they will. The shops have agreed to call me, wherein I will make a report, and press charges. The person who did this, has 3 children and doesn't drive. I don't see how he figured a max of ..... $400.00 was worth his job, and his livelihood. I mean if he sells them to one of these shops, and they call me, I am sure he will never work around here again for a good while. Not with a theft of a co-worker on his record. I do feel for his situation, but it is through my own hard work that I am able to buy coins, and I saved up for months for that set. I will not just accept an apology and take them back. I do not want to work with a thief, at all. I will press charges, and send his sorry butt to jail, if they deem that correct (Justice system) Others may be more empathetic and say "Maybe he sold them to feed his family" My response would be, maybe Karma would have fed his family if he was legit. I believe that this is directly because of something I did at some point, and I accept it, Karma get's all of us one way or another. I just hope that once Karma gets him, he will learn and be a better person because of it.
man that sucks. lesson learned. trust no one. sure sounds like that guy is guilty. he will screw up and sell them to get money. I believe in karma he will get it in the end. what goes around comes around. check pawn shops as well.
Wow...I never thought I'd see Karma mentained six times in a coin thread... "A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward."
I keep mentioning Karma, because I am hoping it works in my favor this time lol. I must also remind myself, I must be the better man. Because I really want to punch the guy in the face. How little he must think of me, especially to steal from me.
You can enact the karma yourself by slicing his tires. or perhaps getting his car towed everyday he comes into work.
I don't know about reporting them stolen after they are found. I'd think something fishy if I was the cop taking the report. Report the theft now. You'll have better legal standing later. When the thief sees the cops in your shop taking the report, he might have a change of heart.
Stinks! Think of it this way : assuming he did take them, think what a downright miserable person he must be. Karma has already punched him in the face and kicked him while he's down. He's not ahead on karma because of this, he's just behind slightly less.
I remember a story you once told where, if true, a little payback was in order yet you did nothing, so please... without knowing if this person could handle the possible consequences if caught doing such a thing, don't suggest it.
OP mentioned that he doesn't drive. You'd be slashing thin air and besides, such actions only degrade oneself. Better to notify the local constabulary and let them deal with the issue.
