I had a 1949 quarter like that recently and it was decided it was only die deterioration. Yours looks a little different because of the bulge at the bottom middle of the D and the two lines at the top right corner protruding. What is the coin? That would probably help everyone a lot.
There are several different varieties of the 1954 D/D. I am not an expert on them. Try Googling some images of certified ones that are legit. That's usually how I verify a lot of mine.
