Here,s Series 681 $1 MPC in PCGS 68PPQ one of only 6 graded at this level With none higher, the back of this note is very unique showing the Air Force,s Thunderbird trick squadron.
Awesome note. When did this series circulate? The reason I ask is...I'm curious as to how up to date the imagery is. The note features the Thunderbirds using the F-100 Supersabre which they flew from 1956-1968 (minus a couple air shows in 1964 when they flew the F-105). I know series 681 was Vietnam era...but was it 1968 or earlier? Also, my dad served in Vietnam from May 1968-April 1970. I'd like to pick up a few MPCs from the time when he was overseas. Which series were issued during those years?
The Series 681 was issued on 8/11/69 and withdrawn on 10/07/70 and was used Exclusively for Vietnam, in addition these were being designed in 68 for Distribution in 69 so most likely they were using the planes in that era Also i have a few nice graded examples from this series if your interested? Also will include postage 10 Cents 67PPQ $120 25 Cents 67PPQ $135 If not i would be more then happy to help you locate what you desire
It's interesting that they were designed in 1968...which was right at the end of the F-100 run with the Thunderbirds. So, when they were designed the aircraft on the back were up to date. However, by the time they were actually issued the Thunderbirds had transitioned to the F-4 Phantom. I'm not interested in picking up any right now...more interested in learning about them. So, what would have been issued in Vietnam between May 1968 and 8/11/69?
Ok As far as what was issued between the dates you mentioned for Vietnam Series 641 Was active between (Issued) 8/31/65 to (Withdrawn) 10/21/68 (that was an extremely long run for any MPC most are withdrawn in under a year) Side note: i have the number one set at PCGS for this as well and will post when i Get a chance (641,661,681) Series 661 was next up and was issued 10/21/68 and withdrawn 8/11/69 Also only used in Vietnam, so these two series would cover your time Frame but ironically out of the 15 military payment sets that were printed Only the Series 681 displays military images, thats a mind blower to me Sense in fact these are designed for the military.
