Found this goin through some rolls today, looks like it may be a die crack. Any thoughts? You can somewhat see it on the top left of Monticello, but it's especially prominent on the bottom.

I tend to agree...looks like a die clash.

Thanks! Yeah, the one in that picture is more extreme but they certainly do have a lot of the same lines. Thank you very much.

Basically what happens here is...when the coins were being produced the dies came together with no planchet between them. This causes the details of the dies to be impressed upon each other (resulting in some of the obverse details being seen on the reverse...and vise-versa). Subsequent coins made using those dies also reflect this.

So no real added value then since it continues onto other coins?

I'm sure there is some value there...how much is hard to say. Remember, only one die combo was making these errors...and who knows for how long. The majority of true coin "errors" result in a die problem that is impressed on the coin. I think there is some value here to the right buyer but probably not a lot.

    I think it's a great find.

Folks collect die clashed coins. Not worth much but worth saving.

I'd totally hang onto it...I think it's a great example of a die clash. I wish I had found it.
