STOLEN $1000 LGS - Please Keep An Eye Out

I recently purchased this gorgeous $1,000. I got a great deal as well.

The package arrived crudely taped. The inside bubble envelope was torn and there was no bill.

I am fairly certain that it was stolen by a postal employee.

The seller refunded me the purchase price, but he's out his money unless USPS insurance pays out. Please keep an eye out on eBay and elsewhere for the note!

That really sucks but I wonder how the mail man knew there was something good in the package like $1000 bill? Was the contents declared some where on the package? That is strange.

 

No, from the $29.85 of postage he could tell it was insured for a lot

 

Ok. Aren't you supposed to call the postmaster general when a theft that obvious happens? Must have been a postal employee on drugs or a gambling habit gone sideways, idiot!!

I'll guess that is where the OP bought the note.

 

A good reason to "hide actual postage" when printing your own labels from Paypal, etc. I wonder if the USPS gives you that option at the post office? I don't think they do...

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss. I posted the info on the SPMC.org members forum to pass it along among the note collectors there.

You might also do the same on Collectors Society in the PMG threads, or if you have an account in any other forums.

You could also set up an eBay search in case it turns up there for sale. Probably the crook who got it spent it and it goes back in circulation, a loss to all collecting most likely.

Can you even *spend* a $1,000 bill? Is it still legal tender?

It would raise a few eyebrows for sure, considering I still get strange looks from high school students at drive-thru windows when I pay with a Kennedy half dollar or an Ike... ;-)

 

First thing, looks like it was sent " PRIORITY MAIL " next, this package should of been log-in everyday, it has a tracking number go on USPS web site, and you should be able to see where it was open, somebody should of log it in, heres what the log-in sheet looks like

Yes, you can spend them and it's not likely to raise too many eyebrows in a banking situation. However, you would probably find that the denomination would be refused by most merchants, many of whom have issues (policies against) taking anything larger than a $20 note. This is especially so when it comes to fast food and smaller retailers. A lot of places fear fake $50s and $100s and won't take them, so I'm sure they'd just refuse the $1000, besides most tills probably don't have that much cash in them, not for long anyway as they would need refreshed with smaller notes as soon as someone made change for a $1000 note.

I think if he start tracking this item, hes going to find out his mail person stole it, my wife use to buy stuff online, then it would get a tracking number, when it got mail out, to make a long story short, are mail person got fired, for stealing

 

Really sorry to hear this, funkee. I hate to say it, but I had a similar situation several years back, and found the USPS to be good only at covering up and delaying any investigation. I hope your results are better.

 

if there was a tracking number, it can be tracked at who scanned the item in ( each individual time ) ....
