Lol... but why? I can understand that some people like things I do not, and can at least see why certain things appeal to others even when they do not appeal to me, but this... this just bores me, honestly. They could have done so much more to make a big deal out of this and to me it seems they just got lazy. If they expect me to shell out my hard earned money for the sake of a coin that commemorates another coin, they could at least be bothered to do something more interesting than take the same coin, slap another date on it, make it out of gold, silver, reverse proof, etc. It's no wonder so many people tend to ignore modern U.S. coins when they pull this kind of laziness. Why spend money on this when there's so many more interesting things out there?

Right after Lincoln cents, the thing I got interested in collecting was JFK halves. I have what I call a "complete set" (I don't count minor varieties, proofs, silver proofs, etc.). I would have loved for this to be something interesting... but this is just too disappointing for me to want to add to my collection.

Here's hoping they do something special in 2017 (which will be the 100th anniversary of JFK's birth). One can only hope they put more effort into it than this.

I too am disappointed with what they came up with "but", they will be different from regular circulation coins. To me, this will have to be difference enough since it is what it is.

It makes me glad I collect 18th and early 19th century material.

7/1 issue of NN is reporting that the gold Kennedy will be available at the Rosemont, IL ANA show.
Why can't the mint open on line sales of these prior to the show sales so that buyers can get delivery on the same day (or soon after) as sales begin at the show?
This way, every buyer gets a fair and equal shot.
These gold coins are already in the mint's inventory and should be ready to ship immediately.

Fair and equal access, sounds like a great idea. Has the Mint ever considered this?

If they ship these like the HOF coins they would have to put then on sale tomorrow in order get them to collectors by August.o_O

Got my 7/14 issue of CW today. They are reporting that the 4 coin 90% set is priced at $99.95. They also report that no on sale date has been announced.

Another thing being reported is that the Gold Kennedys will go on sale at the ANA show in Rosemont, IL at the same time as internet and phone ordering opens at noon eastern time/11:00AM central time on 8/5/14.

But why? Haven't you ever heard the saying "buy what you like and have fun with it?"(or something of that nature) And on top of collecting what you like, believe it or not, modern commemoratives has a HUGE profit margin. I am flying to Chicago solely to stand in line for the gold Kennedy's and I'll buy as many as I can. I hate it when people question what other people collect.

    You'll get two coins.
Will the profit from those two coins exceed your travel costs?
    Most likely not.

I'm not a Kennedy collector, but I plan to pick up a couple silver sets.

Ill get 2 coins? Where did you get that number? Highly likely that the limit is going to be 5 or 3. I really doubt it is going to be less than 3. Anyhow, I will only need 1 to cover my cost. And I am taking some with to stand in line with me. I am obviously not going to all this trouble to not make money. Do you know what the profit margin on a single coin is?

The mint has already decreed that they will only sell 500 gold Kennedys per day at the show with a limit of 2 coins per customer. Sales begin at 11:00 AM, local time, on the first day of the show. Chances are, that if you are the 251st person in line, you'll get nothing. Don't forget, dealers with tables at the show get in earlier than the general public, so the line will be long even before the show opens. Good luck.

I got all my "eye-rolling" out of the way with the Baseball HOF "gimmick" coins. Having then watched what those coins did in the aftermarket, I'm... let's say, "squinting intently" at the Kennedy special issues.

Esthetics and originality aside, I think these coins may display interesting market behavior, even if the coins themselves bore you.

I encourage everybody to SNUB the two coin Uncirculated Set.
That way, the prices are sure to go up over the long run.

I mean, if we could keep sales under say 250,000 sets, I'd be really pleased!

The lady I talked to at ANA was the one who told me 2 per person, 500 per day. She said she got an email from the Mint. I called and spoke with her again today, and she said she no longer is telling people this, because they no longer knew if it was accurate. So I have NO idea what the mint is planning with these.

I have forgotten nothing and no luck will be need. All about planning, thinking ahead and taking these scenarios into consideration. I had no problem getting a complete set of the baseball coins.
