So, what's your guess for the silver set total minted/sold and how long to receive your order after ordering?

I'm guessing somewhere around 500,000 sets minted/sold and 2 to 3 months to get them, unless the mint estimates the demand better this time.

You know these could even sell more than the above guesstimate if they market them to the general public, playing up the assassination, and maybe announce this will be the final year of the JFK-HD.

I don't want to be that guy but I guess I have to be.

    1. What is so great about JFK? in my opinion he was one of the WORST presidents we had. A failed attempt to overthrow castro, almost destroyed the world in the cuban missile crisis, and initiated a cuban embargo making it impossible for Americans to enjoy cuban cigars today. (jfk bought tens of thousands of cuban cigars before signing the embargo act)
    2. Why are we celebrating the murder of a United States President?

Not celebrating, memorializing. Regardless of ones politics, they have no right to end the life of one who disagrees with them. Regardless of a current minority view in congress, we do still live in a democracy, which at times prevails.

Hmmm, i live 20 minutes from the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. Does that mean i could buy the Silver 5 coin set and the the Gold .9999 that day? Or are they just showing them to the public?

My guess is they will only do a promotion where you can see the set and make you drool over the sight of them. This way you get all excited and tell all your collecting friends about it. You buy the sets and some of your friends do too. Bam they just got free referrals from you to make more money.

    As of 6/25/2014, No.

Only the Gold piece and the 2 Coin Uncirculated Set will be available as the "4 Coin Silver Set" release date has not yet been announced.

I honestly think $100 for the silver set and $10 for the clad is quite reasonable. I was expecting double that. I know there probably isn't a lot of growth potential, but I have always liked the Kennedy Half so I will probably pick up both these sets from the mint.

You will be able to buy the gold but not the silvers. You can also buy the clad sets.

IMO, if you didn't like Kennedy, you should be celebrating his death. Just sayin'.

Kennedy was far from the worst President. I will admit that JFK had a slow start in is administration with the “Bay of Pigs” fiasco but he came back strong with the “Cuban Missile Crisis”, taking on the Federal Reserve System by issuing United State Notes, “Berlin Airlift” and among other things, not sure if he would have jumped into Vietnam to the scale that LBJ did.

Including our current occupant to the White House, I could thing of 10 – 15 worst people that has held that office.

Getting back to the Kennedy half dollar, the design (the original) is humble, simple and with the history on how and why it was created, makes it an attractive coin to collect. All of the coins in the basic series are affordable and different doubled dies are plentiful. Even errors are numerous in quantity, so collectors can augment their collection anyway they can think of.

You don’t have to be a democrat to collect Kennedy half dollars.

The Kennedy half dollar wasn’t to celebrate the murder of a United States President; it was to memorialize him to a grieving nation and the world.

There are those that could make the argument he would be a Republican today..

Anyway - I collect them not for 'him' it is just what I started to collect, not a huge fan liked Nixon more, still it is what I collect.

United States Notes had been in circulation since 1928, Except for the 100 dollar note and it didn't come along until 1966, three years after Kennedy died.

I though JFK signed Executive Order 11110 on June 4, 1963. Also, are 5 dollar United State Notes dated 1963?

He did, but that had to do with Silver Certificates, not US Notes. It was part of the effort to phase out silver certificates in favor of FRNs.

    5 dollar United states Notes come with series 1928, 28A, 28B, 28C, 28D, 28E, 28F, 1953, 53A, 53B, 53C, and 1963

Absolutely no interest in any of this. The gold ones are too expensive, the others are just ways of repackaging the same thing in multiple ways. Am I the only one rolling my eyes at these kind of gimmicks?

I really wish that if they wanted to make a big deal about the 50th anniversary of the JFK half dollar, that they would have come up with a unique new design, not just take the same design and mess with multiple ways of repackaging it, making it from different metals, use the original design (which is not significantly different than the current design). Look what has been done for the 2009 cents for example. The Mint just got lazy with this one and I'm not going to put any of this in my collection.
