Another coin I have had for awhile is a Pius Dupondius that turned out to be pretty scarce.

    Info comes from CNG.

Nice coin, Mat. I particularly like the reverse on this one. Too bad the obverse legend is mostly off flan or worn.

I always enjoy a radiate Antoninus Pius. It always seems so out of place to me. I always associate the radiate crown with the 'rough around the edges' emperors and APius always seems so docile and out of place wearing it.

you know, i don't have an antoninus pius in bronze.

let me add that to me list.

i can't keep all the denominations straight, but could it be a heavy as instead of a dupondius? it's a neat coin, whatever it is.

    Dupondii have the radiate crown.

*Dupondii, but not always. In some periods, they shared the same basic size and weight as asses, but were struck in orichalcum while the asses were in copper. To complicate things, I believe Nero also issued asses in orichalcum.

Huh?!! => I have "6" A-Pius AE Drachms and "2" A-Pius AE Sestertii ..... but apparently I don't even have one A-Pius AE Dupondius (well played Mat ... well played)

Oh sorry => and "wow" that's a really eye-poppingly-cool coin you've got there!! (I love the sweet, cool colouring ... very nice, congrats)

A very handsome coin, Mat, with no apparent signs of tooling. Apropos to Ardatirion's comment, I've sometimes wondered if copper and orichalcum exhibit distinct types of patination. Could the purplish toning have to do with more with the alloy than the cleaning?

I have a coin of similar size and weight of Trajan, but it exhibits the typical green patina of ancient copper, making it an as.
