How does this actually help? Are you always typing waste instead of waist? Seriously, I have my own list of autocorrected words.

The people I text know what I mean, and don't go out of their way to specifically point out one word that was misspelled. Everyone misspells words, and I feel like it was very inappropriate and childish for him to point it out.

I don't want to get in the middle of a food fight, but I happen to agree with Ardatirion and, for that matter, IoM. You will be judged by your spelling and grammar, especially grammar. Whether it be in the digital world or in the work place. A minor mistake because of auto spell is no big deal, but don't take offense when someone points it out. Just sayin'.

It shouldn't have been pointed out. It's a homophone, which people make mistakes in constantly. We all do. Everyone knew what was being said and there were no problems. If you really want to get technical about grammar, " sayin' " isn't a word either.

I was thinking the same, just didn't want to point it out so that they couldn't say that I was doing the same thing haha

I think we are talking about two different things. The term "just sayin" is a slang abbreviation whereas words like waist vs waste, or whether vs weather are obvious mistakes. Anyway, now we are wasting time. My purpose in chiming into this conversation was to agree with Ard that you will be judged based on your writings. Perhaps it's just a generational thing. Time will tell.

While I understand where you're coming from, I think it's a bit unfair to make a generalization on the state of literacy and education based on this one post. I have seen older folks make obvious spelling and grammar errors in posts as well.

I do understand that how you post can and does influence how you are perceived online by others, but perhaps there are less harsh ways to go about and bring attention to the issue than this.

It's also one word of many from all my post. One error doesn't mean I'm stupid, I'm far from it. I'm a strait A student with mostly AP classes, not my fault spell check changed a word I typed quickly

I doubt you personally know Charles and know his grades, and youre infering that hes not a A student because he used " waisted" instead of "wasted". So from what I can tell be this is that youre very judgmental. It sounds almost sterotypical to say someone doesnt have A grades because lf a incorrect word. So, ill be judgmental and sterotypical right back at you. I see you as a old, lonely, groutchy lazy man that has nothing better to do than get on a young student for a common mistake such as a homophone. GET A LIFE!!! But, that may not be the case. who am I to judge you? You might be a young happy maried man, but im not going to infer otherwise because of youre earlier comments... I dont know you! so point is, you dont know charles, so dont infer that hes not a A student because of a mistake. Youre ridiculous.

Here I go again getting in the middle, but what IoM was referring to was the use of "strait" where "straight" was meant. This just happens to be another one of those inconvenient English homonyms.

I understand that. But it was meant that because of his mistakes, hes not an A student. That should be left out. Thats attacking him. Nobody here knows him or his grades. Dont judge his grades because of mistakes.
