I really like Capital Plastics coin holders. Secure storage and you can see both sides of the coins. I have found eBay is a very good source for finding ones I would like to fill cheap. I just got two very lightly used in the box 20th Century type dollars holders as a pair, an obsolete #424 and a current #424B for $4.30 plus $5.95 shipping. Total cost $10.25 delivered! These holders retail for $23.40 each plus shipping at any of the online discount coin supply retailers. The #424 has already been filled with an 1884-O Morgan, 1922 Peace, 1972-S 40% silver Ike, 1976-S 40% silver Ike bicentennial and a 1979-P SBA. The #424B has a silver eagle instead of the bicentennial Ike. It needs some holes filled. In it now is another 1884-O Morgan and a 40% 1974-S Ike. Finding the rest of the coins for this holder will be easy to do at the next coin show I attend. I also have two Dollars of 1878 I got off of eBay NOS with original price stickers of $12.95. One black and one white which I will eventually fill. The white one with toned coins and blast white coins for the black one. They are currently priced at $22.25 each. I paid less than $10.00 each for them.
I've never had any luck unloading my Capital holders. I've got the 35-coin UNC Franklin holder that nobody seems to like. I think they prefer a Dansco (like me!) I also have 12 that housed the ANA 3-medal sets, but two of the openings are 38mm and one is 19mm. I guess they're okay if you like "dollars & cents". Chris
Certain holders just don't sell well. Price and condition of the holder is very important for a used holder, too many large scratches it won't sell. I have had no problem selling complete Peace dollar set holders and type set holders. The issue I had with the Dansco albums is you have to get the coin down into the hole far enough so when you put the slide back in it won't make contact with the coins and put hairline scratches on them. Otherwise they are a great method of storing your collection.
I like the look of the Capital holders. I bought one for a birth year set for maybe $5 a couple of years ago. I don't think I ever finished now that I think about it...
When I started collecting, Capital was the only holder. (other than 2X2s) Consequently, I will always like them. Still working on this one...
Hi Ed. Your post is 4 1/2 years ago I see, but are you still collecting Capital Holders. I do too. I haven't posted on Coin Talk before but I have 500+ buy and sell on EBay. Perhaps we are bidding against one another on some items on EBay. Anyway, if you have some you don't particularly like or want to get rid of, I do too and perhaps we could do some trading or buy and sell.
