    My dealer still gets his coins from dead men. Old coin collectors die. Wife goes to coin shop and asks what she can get. He makes an offer, usually accepted, and it's done. He usually pulls the gems and turns around the average stuff retail.

    I don't expect that the neighborhood brick and mortar coin shop makes a whole lot of money. The ones that seemed to do the best around here were the ones who supplemented their income by participating heavily in the PM market of 2009-2012 while it was hot.

    Ladies, Gentlemen and others;
    This will be my final post. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson's and have decided to retire. Since I am now 77 this is a good news/bad news thing. The good news is that I have been around the hobby since 1943, am now 77 and the disease comes late in life so I will probably die of natural causes before the symptoms become too severe. The bad news is that I am 100% combat disabled, over 4 years in Vietnam and Thailand, now walk with a cane, my memory is slipping and I cannot get around as well as I use to. My inventory and my library of over 2000 volumes are in the process of being disposed of privately to one buyer (and that should answer the question of where dealers get their coins).
    My daughter is a Junior in college at the University of Texas in Dallas studying psychology. The good Lord willing I will be at her graduation for her doctorate. Many of you will remember her as the little fireball who took naps under the bourse table.
    I will still attend shows as long as I am able saying hello (and goodby) to many old friends and doing a good deal for an old customer.
    Good luck to all of you.

    Mr. Garner, I have not met you before but I am sorry to hear of your condition. First of all, thank you for your service to the country. Secondly, thank you for your contributions to the hobby. I wish you all the best.

    Well, I clicked the "Like" button, but I don't really like your post. I'm sorry to hear about your condition and retirement from the hobby. I do "like" what you did for twenty years, serving in the Air Force (in case you read this, I'm active duty Air Force too).
