Have there been petitions on this site before and has there been movements created on this site before?
I also think that the US Mint is wasting time and effort minting the clad proof and uncirculated sets. The US Mint is making clad proof and uncirculated sets which fall really low in value a few years after the product sells out at the mint. Even the ones which have lower mintages like the 2004 proof set fall after a few years. The 2004 clad proof set, for example, was valued around $70 in 2005 but can now be bought for around $9. At least the US Mint's silver coin products have the price of silver to act as a floor on their value. I think that the US Mint should discontinue the clad proof set and keep only the silver proof set. Also, I think that the clad uncirculated set should be discontinued. In its place, there should be a silver uncirculated set and a silver reverse proof set introduced. The silver reverse proof set would be struck at San Francisco, the silver uncirculated set would be struck at Denver, while the silver proof set would be struck at Philadelphia. I look forward to seeing further input!
I don't think so.But there is a first time for everything. I'll be making a seperate post about this later today.
Wrong. There are plenty of coins out there, from republics with democratic political structures, that depict deceased politicians. Not to mention other persons - writers, scientists, artists, etc. Ah well. Quite a few comments in this topic I find peculiar, but addressing them would get us further into politics. Christian
https://www.cointalk.com/threads/petition-for-us-mint-to-change-their-gold-coin-lineup.246207/ You sound like you're doing the same thing that vocalcoincollectors (affectionately referred to as VCC) tried and what Peter Rosconi tried again. However, suggesting the elimination of the CnClad Uncirculated Sets and CnClad Proof Sets in favor or more expensive alternatives isn't going to win you any friends. Reading your paragraph, it kinda sounds like you're gonna build one anyway. As for price drops in US Mint Sets, you state: "The 2004 clad proof set, for example, was valued around $70 in 2005 but can now be bought for around $9." Aftermarket value, which is what you are quoting has little to do with what the mint sells these for which happened to be $22.95. Then you turn around and suggext perhaps a more expensive yet stable alternative in Silver Proof sets? In most cases, even those sets can be found for cheaper than US Mint Issue price yet are costlier to the collector at the outset. The REAL problem with CnClad Proof and Uncirculated coin sets is in the "volume" which the US Mint produces and, of course, that "volume" is directly related to "Orders Received". So, its not like folks don't like them even if they are long run losers. Good Luck with your class........err......uhh.......I mean effort. I'm sure you'll score well.
You are correct but most are commemorative issues from countries that have a "figure head". I'm referring to circulation issues.
I'm a bit taken aback by your post. I have no plans to start a petition at this time. The reason why I created this thread was to create discourse on some ideas that I have. I have been collecting for over 15 years and I found this forum when I was researching various coins that I was interested in buying. Over the years, I focused on collecting mostly circulated coins so that I could get a complete, or close to complete set of the different types that exist. Of course, I did collect proof and mint sets and sought the modern coins in uncirculated condition. Now that I have more disposable income, I want to upgrade my collection and get more uncirculated coins of the more older types and even go for pre-1933 gold coins.
From my understanding, if I were to begin an effort to get TR on the gold eagle, a lot of the Republicans would oppose it because many Republicans did not like him being a pragmatic problem solver which caused him problems in his time and would cause problems now. The fact that there are a lot of so called phony conservatives wouldn't help the cause either. With that being said, if anything, I think that the most important thing is that the rendition of Saint Gaudens' striding liberty on the obverse of the AGE is complete junk and should be replaced. I think that the Walking Liberty obverse on the ASE is junk and should be replaced also. That is the most important point that should come out of this discussion. A Statue of Liberty design on the AGE and ASE, with a different rendition for the AGE and a different rendition on the ASE wouldn't be too bad IMO.
You wish to own that one, don't you The one you posted isn't ugly, but this one sure is ....and this one too
But they are, essentially, the same design. Right? I mean, an arm wasn't moved or a dress fold added or a ray added. The same except that one is available in a deep mirrored proof example and the other isn't due to different production techniques.
