Glad to see you on CoinTalk, Jake! A suggestion to anyone who is an ANA member or who follows the news about the ANA, you should follow Jake here on CoinTalk. He's a great guy and a personal friend of mine. He is a great resource for all questions ANA.
Hi, Yes, kids 12 and under are admitted for free. I haven't seen if there will be an ordering window for the dual-dated Kennedy or not. I don't think the Mint has announced that yet. I don't believe the Mint has announced mintage numbers or prices yet, either. I don't have this confirmed yet, but I've heard the Mint is considering limits on the number of dual-dated Kennedys that can be purchased at the show. We had a long line for the gold buffaloes on the first day of the show last year, and the Mint ended up bringing in another shipment for later in the week. And Mike is far, far, too kind.
Oh, and I'd love to meet up with anyone at the WFM. I'll be there starting Sunday morning before the show and staying through the week, leaving the following Sunday.
So how do these things work. After you get your gold kennedy, can you get back in line for another? If there are order limits, can you order at the show, and also online? Do some people in line usually miss out, or do most people get one usually? How long does it take to get them graded at the show? (ready same day?) I have NGC membership, but not PCGS. Can you get them graded by either? I am thinking of coming in on Tuesday.. and heading home Later tuesday.
Like I said before, I'm not sure how the Mint is going to run this sale -- so far it's a lot of rumor and not a lot of facts. When I find out something for sure, I'll be sure to report back. The last I heard, NGC would be taking submissions at the show. You'd drop off your item(s) at the show and it would be returned by mail. PCGS is doing on-site grading, but I'm not sure how fast the turnaround will be. You do need to be a PCGS member to submit to PCGS at the show.
The US Mint has already announced a July 24th Release Date for the Two Coin Uncirculated set and an August 5th Release date for the Gold Kennedy coin. They have also announced that both of these products WILL be available at the ANA Show. http://www.coinworld.com/news/united-states-mint-planning-seven-50th-anniversary-kennedy-half-.html The only product up in the air is the 50th Anniversary 4 Coin Set which has not had a release date set. https://www.facebook.com/UnitedStatesMint I expect that a quantity of the two products being offered to be available AND for their to be long lines both at the US Mint Booth and the TPG Booths.
Order limits at a Coin Show are meaningless as its only a limit for what your current transaction. You can certainly jump back in line and get more as was done at the recent Long Beach Coin show where those smashtages were selling the Uncirculated Version of the HOF Half Dollar (instead of fulfilling web orders mind you) at a limit of 5. Take along a buddy or two and buy your limit(s) multiple times. Major Dealers will be doing exactly that! Your other questions are relative to how many the Mint brings which is unknown. Same day grading costs $110 at the PCGS Booth BUT that only means it will get graded that day for pickup the next. You could opt for the SHOW EXPRESS at $200 per coin (4 hours) but you'll need some buyers lined up. http://www.pcgs.com/servicesandfees/ PCGS Membership costs $49 a year and you cpuld join at the show. NGC submission privileges come with ANA Membership although tracking of your submission is not available with this method. IF you are going solely to buy Kennedy Half Dollars, plan on attending multiple days since 1 solid day should be allocated to standing in line.
Just remember you may be in line for two or thee hours each time. And the dealers will be paying some people to stand in line for them, and usually waiting at the end of the line offering to buy coins from people who have already gone through the line. (many people buy extras while they are in line just so they can sell them to the dealers at the end so the coin they keep is free.) This is how Silvertowne managed to get their hands on close to half of the HOF coins sold at the show. You will also find them at the Pick Up area from the grading services offereing to buy the graded coins as well.
I'll be there starting the 3rd so I can go to one day of the PNG show. But I wrote the mint and told them that it would be nice if they did NOT let anyone line up for the coins at the ANA show until the doors opened to the public. That is the only fair way to do it so everyone has the same opportunity to get in line, not letting the dealers fill up the line before the show opens with their paid ponies before the rest of the people can get in. I think everyone here should email the mint and tell them the same thing. At the very least maybe issue numbers so you don't have to stand in line for hours and can wander through the dealers OR make it so you can only have a single line, not a line with 5, 6, 7, 8 people bunched together going back and forth here and there and the persons behind never knowing how many people are really in front of them.
You're going to tell people where they can stand? (No I''m not "in line". I just happen to be standing next to the Mint booth at 9:30 when the show opens to the public. And I just happen to be standing next to him. Me too!.......) Ging to have Mint Police goons there with billie clubs to keep people from loitering near the booth? "Keep moving, get along there!"
Coin Dealer "Paid Ponies" get in with the rest of the "Public", not the dealers. Unless of course they happen to be ANA Members and/or the dealer pays the ANA Membership plus the $150 Early Bird fee which, for these coins, I highly doubt.
And of course some dealers have assistants that work at their table. They have passes and get in with the dealers. They can go stand in line before the show opens to the public.
Here's a money-saving tip for the World's Fair: Show your convention badge at the Five Roses Pub (located about 2 blocks from the convention center in MB Financial Park) and they'll knock 15 percent off the bill.
Nice of you to sign up and become a member Jake, and help folks out with info. Needed somebody like you around here for some time now
