So I try to post an ebay auction. I have like 20 that I want to post, but I'm redirected to verify my phone number. Got it. Then it redirects me to link my credit card account? I try to use paypal, but it won't let me use my invoice. In the first place I don't know why they are doing this. Is there some hidden fees they want to charge me? Please don't tell me I have to pay additionally to the 10 % final ebay fee, and the 3 % paypal fee? That would be ridiculous.

I don't have problems like that. Have you tried calling them to find out what's going on? That would be the first thing I'd do. Have you messed up your PayPal account? Call them, too.

No hidden fee's, they just need a credit card on file.

USUALLY, your ebay fee's get charged to this card IF you do not make your payments to eBay through PayPal.

Exactly why this is the default is beyond me since even though I pay my fee's with paypal, if I fail to make that payment, it gets charged to my PayPal account.

Now, after you've put in your credit card, you can set up automatic payments "through" paypal but I don't always have money in that account so I've never done this.

Just to make sure, there is no listing fee, right?

    It depends.

I think eBay allows up to 200 free "Auction Style" listings every day but they'll add fee's if you set a RESERVE or place a Buy It Now in your listing.

They'll charge you Final Value Fee's if you charge for Shipping as well as standard Final Value Fee's for what your product sells for.

But, none of these fee's get charged to your credit card as long as you pay them when they are due.

My sister tryed etsy, but she had a terrible time with her merchandise. Craigslist... uggh, I'm not sure if its the right place for this kinda thing.

I tried etsy, and IMHO it is a pretty good place to sell. Pray tell, what were her reasons for not liking it?

eBay will always charge you a fee for listing. Once in a while you may get an email from EBay offering a certain number of free listings but those are unpredictable as to when you may get a special offer email.

If you pay for an EBay store, they give you a certain amount of "free" listings every month. The thing is that they're really not free since you have to make a monthly financial commitment to have an EBay store.

Not quite sure! I think it varies on how much your BIN price would be. Like $0.50 for a BIN of $100 to $250, $1 for $251 to $500 or something like that.

I don't pay much attention to the insertion fees because they are pretty nominal.....Ie; if $1 is going to hurt your bottom line, eBay isn't the biggest problem. The Final value fees add up though!

With all due respect, Free. Does. Not. Always. Equal. Better. This is particularly true when the goal is to put the item in front of as many eyes as possible.

I cannot speak for etsy, but the idea that craigslist is "a lot better" is highly debatable. Again, if putting an item in front of as many potential buyers as is possible is important, ebay is most certainly the "better" option. Another serious consideration should be personal safety, which is something one does not need to worry about with ebay. The point is not to dismiss your opinion, but only to show that it is wise to look beyond the surface; there is no sense in being penny wise and pound foolish.

200? Try 50 per month (or 100 for coins):
Insertion fee: When you list an item, you're charged an insertion fee that's based on your item's starting or reserve price. Insertion fees are free for your first 50 or 100 listings per calendar month, depending on the listing format and category chosen. Exclusions apply for some categories. http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/insertion-fee.html#free

It depends what you're selling and how much you're selling it for. Just so you know ebay charges alot of money to sell stuff and it's really only worth it if you can buy an item for really cheap and sell for a killer profit. If you have a hot item that is difficult for people in some areas to buy, then you have an opportunity to make some money. If it's a collectible item then ebay is still one of the best places to sell because they have the most buyers. It just depends. Be prepared to pay through the nose sometimes, that's how ebay works. The way I justify it in my mind is ebay is a gamble. Sometimes, you win and sometimes you lose.

Sometimes you just have to wait a while. My mom had to wait two months+ before she sold her first item. some people have to wait longer, other not so long. Heck, i sold my first item in less than a month, then a second 5 days later!

Are there hidden fees? You pay what's on the invoice. There's nothing hidden there.

Why do they need a credit card? So they can charge you if you close your PP account and try to avoid paying your invoice.

How much does it cost to add BIN? If you want to know how much it costs to add Buy It Now, just go to your listing and add the Buy It Now. Before you confirm it, it will show you the additional fee.

Is Cointalk or Etsy better than ebay? Well I haven't heard from anyone who does high volume sales on either one of those. If those are truly great places to sell, then the market would have found them by now.

I would strongly disagree with this information. The only way they are "better" is they are cheaper. CT is free, Craig's List is free for most things and from what I have been told, etsy has lower fees than eBay. However, cheaper doesn't mean better.

The reason that eBay has higher fees is because it reaches A LOT more people. What you are basically paying for is advertisement. Advertisement always costs more when it reaches more people. Sure, etsy may cost 50% as much...but if 5% as many people see your item for sale, is it really better? I say no. Business isn't only about keeping your costs low...it's about getting the most bang for your buck. There isn't another online sales site that will put your item in front of as many people as eBay...simple as that. Because of that, you pay higher fees.
