Is it the QC in Phily, bad die design, or something else. Today I found a new Bessie Coleman quarter with a die break on the wing of the plane, Bessie's lip & G.W.'s nose. I'm afraid these things will be worthless. Obverse.jpg Reverse.jpg Lou

Correct - they won't have much if any value.

I do think it's the first time with the newer design, and it's much higher relief than the old Flannagan design ended up, so the mint is having a lot of trouble with the design. Some of the NWQ also have higher design relief than some of the 50SQ and ATBs.

I expect we will see some design tweaks at the trouble spots. A little Botox on George's lip, a small nose job...

Really, you're afraid of that? They're damaged dies. I'd send that back to the Mint and request my money back.

They are so common you’ll never make enough to retire on but they are fun to find and collect.

Just like the microscopic DDOs and DDRs, they're just as worthless.

@Scubalou Get them up on EBAY quick enough, before the site is saturated and you can make a few bucks. After that, the interest will subside.

I’m honest. What can I tell you? Actually, according to my wife, I’m half-honest. At least it’s something, though. :)

I believe those are incuse devices. If they are recessed then the doubling is most likely incuse die doubling or MD.

The reverse is too crowded for a coin of that size. The designer simply did too much and the coin is kind of like a word salad in my opinion.
