Found an 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar from my late father's estate . . it is not in very good condition, and due to the nature of the rubbing, I'm having difficulty establishing the mark on the back side, above and between, the D and O. Can anyone help? Is it worth anything?
San Fran........ Edit to add: Probably worth 'melt value' in that condition (VG-8 F-12). Welcome to the forum.......
G since I'm almost 75 years old, my eye sight isn't as sharp as yours . . thanks for your KIND support of my question
opps sorry. I did not know your age. welcome to the hobby of kings. I am glad you are here. you're never to old or young to appreciate coins. welcome to CT tswalker. let us know if you need help with other coins ok. Craig.
thank you! Hope to find more coins as I rummage through the attic, and all the help I can get is truly appreciated, as I know nothing about old coins . . only wheat pennies and buffalo nickels!
@tswalker, welcome aboard! One reason you can rule out a "D" mintmark is because the Denver Mint didn't open until 1906 and thus only struck Morgan Dollars for one year, 1921. Hope that info might help with future finds.
