Eisenhower Dollars - Value?

My wife's aunt and uncle were given this as a silver anniversary gift in 1971.

I don't know much about Eisenhower dollars and was wondering about value of this set. These are all 1971 with the Philadelphia mintmark. All appear to be in uncirculated condition.

Any ideas??

Buck a piece........

 

worth face, but bidiots will pay $5+ each.

 

Well, they may worth a buck, but if you can spot some clashes then it may bump some bucks. However, if it's a family heirloom then it would be nice to keep as the cool factor is 10 for that one.

 

I see them selling for 14-17 on ebay per 10 not including shipping.

 

Family history; they're priceless.

It's worth much more to us than it is to someone else.

Most '71 Ikes look like garbage from across the room. If one of these is a Gem and not damaged by glue or something it can have substantial value.

 

No glue. . . Each coin was simply placed in this holder made for dollar-sized coins.

 

1971 Eisenhower Dollars from the Philadelphia command nice healthy premiums in grades MS65 ($150-$500) and MS66 ($1500-$2600).

Judging from the obverse of the coins that are pictured, they look like there might be some MS65's in that lot.

IF, you or any other family member decides to sell these at some point in the future, seek out a qualified Eisenhower Dollar Expert for an actual evaluation. Make a note and attach or include it in the actual package the coinj card came in.

Following the expertise of someone that says "a buck a piece" is just foolish since, yes, you could get a buck a piece for them but I have personally spent $3,000+ for a coin of the same year and mint.

Many folks throw away significant dollars on assumptive advice. Seek advice from someone that specializes in this particular coin before doing or assuming anything.

19Lyds - - Thanks for your comments and advice. As I had indicated, we have no intention of selling these coins. Based on your advice, however, I may have someone look at them that knows more about Eisenhower's than I do.

It is important, as I stated, that you somehow identify the set in some manner so that others know what to do should you lose sight of this item. Perhaps a BIG ATTENTION Note taped over the coins.

What will happen, is you will have to send them to someone for either photographing or in hand examination. They will give an honest opinion at a minimum of cost. Much is needed for consideration.

For example, the company that created this, did they shine the coins up before sealing them? That's a big question that can only be answered with detailed photography or in hand examination.

As a side note, if I saw these coins up for sale, I would definitely bid and I'm sure many others would as well.

 

Not trying to hype any particular book, but there was a "expert" at one of my coin club meeting last years who was talking about these coins and was mentioning that there were a number of oddities in this series that is supposedly just beginning to make themselves known.

Bought the book that the Ike group is selling and out of the more than 400 Ikes that I have was able to find two in my stash that I am planning on sending out to be graded. It takes a lot of looking but there are some finds that make the hobby very interesting from time to time.

It was enough to keep me interested in the series and looking for more.

BTW, the book that I purchased was from one of the Ike group of authors (forgot his name) but the talk was very interesting. The book that I purchased was titled "Collectible Ike varieties - Fact, Photos, and theories".

As my book shows, there are a total of four books that they put out. In my book there is so much information that I haven't figured out yet exactly what I have. Almost to much info if there is ever something like that.

For the record - I have no ties to the Ike group.

 

Sure looks like some higher grade coins in that set.
Not what you normally see in these type of sets.

So I took your advice and registered with the IKE Group this past Saturday.

The forum doesn't seem to be especially active and I haven't yet received an e-mail saying my account has been activated (and, of course, I get an inactive account message when I attempt to login).

Any ideas? Has my "membership" request been denied?

 

It has been quiet on the Ike Group forum lately, which means they are probably working on a project...like a new book or updating the web site....or maybe vacation.

You might notice 19Lyds is one of the more knowledgable Ike collectors on the forum.
