Ok, heheeee I didn't call it a cud ;-) Ok as I am still a student here. This is not a detached piece of metal that was struck into the coin? It looks as if I were to to take another sharp object, I could knock it out of there. There appears to be a seam at the top and the bottom. Also I am able to see, which I couldn't quite get in the picture for you guys, at the very bottom the seam of the neck goes through it, leaving a bit of metal on the other side of the seam. Oh and son of a gun! LOL! Thank you guys! LOL and like some others post I am never telling what it is ;-) I am always just asking.

Yeah, I'm thinking it looks like a die chip, too. (I would've said "cud", but after reading the previous posts, I guess I know better now. ) What did you use to get those close-ups? That's some pretty impressive resolution...!
Thanks sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I used my small digital cannon with an eye loupe. I then cropped out the eye loupe while enlarging the photo.
