This was difficult to notice until the light hit it a certain way, I then saw a darker shiny color on parts of the coin, super hard to see (it looked normal) , but with brighter light and different angles I got this. What do you guys think?
if you can see the grease strike through it looks like you can make out lettering under liberty, an outline of the Pez and lettering or numbers on the neck, but I am crazy
I'm assuming that this coin was found in circulation. If that is the case, there is no telling what substances it may have contacted in circulation. Chris
hmmmmm what about the letters? Again when you look at this it looks totally normal until at specific angles and this grease is in the coin. It also resembles an example they have on: error-ref.com/part-vi-striking-errors.html just not as fantastic. Oh, and yes it is circulated.
please don't ruin my day, I just found one with scrap on it or a struck through die chip from the same roll, lol. Just kidding about ruining my day! i like all respones and i am like a new kid learning
someone may have taken a leak on this poor ole dime.like Chris said when coins are being used in circulation they go thru some really hard times. I seriously doubt it having any extra letters.
the letters or showing up in the grease from the transfer, they are not perfect but there as well as the outline on the right.
This is supposed to be rare so I may, just to be safe, get it checked, that will be the next thing to learn for me. I will try and copy the comparison one to.
It's hard to see everything from just looking at photos. from what you are saying it sounds like some type of glue or other dried residue may have got on the coin then another coin got pushed into the glue. this is a common thing to happen and it leaves the imprint of the other coin in the dried residue. we see folks getting fooled a lot here on the forum from glue getting on coins.
ok then maybe it is one of the common struck thru grease coins. the mint workers sometimes use too much grease on the dies then dust and all kinds of gook builds up in the grease and hardens. coins like this will have these spotty looking areas all over them.
Here the example of one from the site I mentioned above. And yes mine not close as GD. Hope it makes you all change your minds LOL just kidding hope it helps you to see what I am.
There is a portion of the letters showing dark in color below liberty, two letters. I think I or L and the other is E.
Yes grease strike through can happen a lot according to the striking error site just not when letters or outlines appear.
Or Chris I am pretty sure the example was circulated I think. Or it was pretty scratched up at the mint wrong face
