Well it is now official. Better save your pennies (I mean cents ) to buy these sets. TC http://www.coinworld.com/news/united-states-mint-planning-seven-50th-anniversary-kennedy-half-.html
When the article says " during the ANA convention" does that mean people can order online during the time the convention is taking place, or do you have to be physically be there to get first dibs?
The site says: Does that mean they won't be in the annual silver proof set? That doesn't make sense. The Kennedy half has been one of the silver coins in the annual silver proof set ever since I have been buying them. *edit* Never mind, the bottom of the page clears that up.
Which of the three product offerings are you going to buy if any? Do you think these will be keepers, a flip or a flop? TC
I wonder if these will be mint to demand, limited number, or limited time frame. I am really torn on this one. Pro: .9999 Con: non standard gold content, not a unique design I don't want to just buy it for the sake of it. I don't collect Kennedy items. I am really torn. What are your thoughts on the gold offering? worth it? do anything for you?
If the gold has a very limited mintage, I will likely be a buyer. It will not have the same draw as the HOF gold. TC
This crap has got to change! Releasing coins at National Coin Shows smacks of favoritism and I would not be surprised if a little nepotism and corruption weren't included! IF Folks think for one second that these Kennedy Coin will not have the same draw as the HOF Coins, repeat after me: 2011 SAE Anniversary Set!
I agree the silver and gold will be winners for the next 25 years*. But when nobody is alive who can remember the Kennedy assassination I don't see coin collectors of the future being as interested in these. I'm not sure about the clad. It sounds like the only difference from the mint set/business strike versions will be the "accented hair" from the original design. Those could be a flop. * Depending on mintage. If it is mint to demand these could end up like the west point silver eagle set or reverse proof buffalo.
I was simply asking for others' opinions. Just trying to stimulate discussion. Some may like or dislike these for many reasons. TC
Only the limited sets at this point in time. IF the CnClad offerings have the anniversary design, then those will have a huge but possibly brief wave of popularity.
I will be buying a lot of the gold and silver if it is not mint to demand. The only other coins I've purchased from the mint were 2011 ASE Anniversary set (max) and the hof coins.
The U.S. Mint plans to offer the single gold Proof coin and the two-coin set during the ANA convention, according to Mint officials. The dealers will take advantage of this again. They will have dozens of buyers buying for them just like the Reverse Buffalo and the HoF coins. The Mint will once again turn their heads the other way and say that's fair and equal access. I wonder what the BIG $$$$ Label will be this time.
Finally.......................someone's paying attention! PS - STILL waiting on my Uncirculated HOF Half's (which were available at the Long Beach Coin Show) and Proof/Unc Silver Dollar HOF coins which are still backordered!
