Hi I'm new here and was wondering if anyone can tell me something about this coin. my frien from Cyprus found it in her garden. Thanks, Steve
Might be a Heraclius (610-641) 30 Nummia (30 is an unusual denomination). This guy has a picture of a similar coin: http://augustusmath.hypermart.net/coinlist.html This SB 812 looks similar also: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/byz/heraclius/t.html
Welcome to CoinTalk Steve. I do not know your coin. Others at CoinTalk will probably reply today. Here is a Heraclius coin I picked-up last year: Byzantine Empire Heraclius A.D. 610-641 Æ 6 Nummi 1.77 grams, 15.7 mm Obv: Cross potent Rev: Large S Other: DOC 198; SB 862. Heraclius was Byzantine Emperor from 610 to 641. According to Wikipedia, he was responsible for introducing Greek as the Eastern Empire's official language. He apparently reorganized the Byzantine imperial administration and the imperial armies and strengthened the Empire in the process.
Charles, I don't have scales here that will weigh such a small object but I will try and get the coin weighed and come back to you. Thank you.
