I was looking for the schedule of Australia's Perth mint schedule for future mintage that are coming.

I don't want to miss the next collectible item!

Is this the correct page and I don't see the mintage numbers? Perthmint usually does group release? How can i save money to buy all at once!

"NEW COIN RELEASES AVAILABLE FROM 12.01AM 6 MAY 2014 (AWST):"

    http://www.perthmint.com.au/forthcoming-releases.aspx

How this guy get his hand on this already, I thought it's release on MAY 6?

The YouTube video was uploaded on February 3rd.

The coins first released in January from the Perth Mint in three varieties, 1 ounce silver high relief, 1 ounce silver proof and 1 ounce gold high relief. They sold out very, very quickly.

CoinWeek.com posted an interview with John Mercanti about the design and commission he worked on for this piece back in mid-January also.

    Mintages are:
    5,000 - 1 ounce silver Proof (*) (Dia. 40.6 mm) [more info on GovMint.com]
10,000 - 1 ounce silver Proof High Relief (Dia. 32.6)
1,000 - 1 ounce gold Proof High Relief (Dia. 27.3 mm)

Many times, and particularly related to this release, Perth Mint has distributors in other parts of the world who release the coins. As the guy in the video says, he got his from GovMint.com. They were the exclusive dealers for North America, with the entire mintage, some 5,000 silver coins struck in the proof 40.6 mm diameter specification. There was a bit of confusion in their release specifications given for the coins and many people who thought they'd be getting the high relief, instead got a proof with a different diameter. They also had all coins at GovMint reviewed by PCGS and any that didn't grade 69 or 70 were not encapsulated and sold in original packaging, while the rest were automatically slabbed. SO, that upset some folks who learned PCGS deemed the raw coins less than 69/70, and they would know that if resubmitted by customers later.

It was said earlier this year when all the confusion about these coins was going on that later this year... (May 6th?) a 5 ounce version of this design will be released. All I can suggest is to stay tuned and watch various sites, blogs and prepare to buy when it goes on sale. It will probably be swift again since many missed out on the first round.

I got one of the high relief coins direct from Perth Mint in Australia and sales were strictly limited to one per customer. They vanished quickly!

I posted images of the high relief coin I got in this thread back in mid-January of 2014: World-ancient-coins-your-newest-acquisition

By the way, if you like Perth Mint products, you should also monitor their blog for information on releases and get signed up for their email newsletters/info on collector coins and a separate list for bullion products.

About every month or two they also host a giveaway on their blog, in which you can solve an anagram, and enter to win something. This month its the 2014 High Relief Kookaburra coin. Check it out here, Anagram contest.

    Just to be clear...

For the Mercanti designed 2014 Wedge Tail Eagle coins, Perth Mint WAS NOT shipping coins direct to customers in the United States. They did ship coins direct to other international locations, but not to the U.S. When attempting to order, if your shipping and/or billing addresses were in the U.S., the transaction could not be completed. The only dealer in the U.S. for this release was GovMint.com and they didn't sell all varieties of this coin.

Some third party sellers IN Australia did have the various varieties of the coins for international delivery, but they sold out real fast. CoinClub Australia was one such dealer who had them. That left eBay.com.au, for one, and prices rose swiftly as is common with hot new releases.

As TC noted, some people in the US piggyback on orders to get bullion from Australia, but do note that, The Perth Mint has two sites. One is for collectible coins: Perth Mint Australia and another one is for bullion sales: Perth Mint Bullion.

Thanks so much for all that info! overwhelm!
    Great photo of your coin!

So the wedge-tailed 1oz was out yesterday and it say that it's selling it by "Customers in the USA can purchase this coin from Govmint.com 800-642-9160."

How likely can I get this?

I'm going to want to buy the "Australian Koala 2014 5oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin" gotta get the dates down and how to order when it's available! I've been to too many forums and not working enough to buy these beautiful coins.

Yes, that is correct. The new coins went on sale today, Tuesday, May 6th on the Perth Mint website. I don't know when GovMint (will/did) list their allotment of these coins.

GovMint.com is the distributor for delivery to the USA. You could buy on eBay.com (or eBay.au), or try another dealer in Australia, such as Downies.com, who I have heard will have these coins for sale. Perth Mint will not deliver direct to USA addresses. Perth Mint serves Australia and other countries for this release.

5 ounce silver proof high relief (Limited mintage of 5,000)
These 5 oz. coins are currently selling for approximately USD$410. A very steep mark up with silver at USD$19.69 spot price on 2014/5/6. These coins are 12.5mm thick and 50.6mm in diameter. Some listings on eBay immediately went up for $599 per coin.

    1 ounce silver proof
(Limited mintage of 5,000 --> This means combined with GovMint coins sold-out in January, a total mintage of 10,000) This is the same coin that was originally sold by GovMint in January in the US. It was not sold on the Perth Mint site in January but now it is. The 40.6mm diameter proof. This is NOT high relief.

Most likely GovMint will submit their coins to PCGS and anything not given a 69/70 grade will be sold in original boxes, but considerably less expensive for those who know the coins were already submitted to the TPG. If buying on the secondary market, be aware of this when considering your costs.

For more information from collectors, read the comments section of this World Mint News blog page. It's one of the more accurate, if not a little confusing, sources of information about the release of these coins.

There was absolutely NO problem placing an order for these coins on the Perth Mint page on release day for coins shipping to locations outside of Australia and outside of the U.S. Delivery estimate given was 5-7 days.

Something to be aware of about the Perth Mint product listing for the Wedge Tailed Eagle coins, on release day, the following message in red letters was displayed:

"LIMIT OF ONE COIN PER EXISTING MEMBER
until midday 8 May 2014 AWST."

Therefore, quantities you may purchase, of remaining stock after that date may change. If you are not an existing Perth Mint customer, I don't know if you can set up a new account at this time or just face restrictions with this product temporarily.

If you want new coins from the Perth Mint on release days, or during the initial days following a release, you should register your account in advance to avoid future obstacles when ordering popular and limited sales items.

oooO... Krispy now you tell me.

We'll did you get a wedge-tailed already? I'm out for that 5 oz wedge tailed, will get ATBs.

How else can I get coins without it being in the secondary market... So far I've just been confused as to how to even order any thing hot from Perth.

I thought I gave you all the information (and more) that you needed before May 6th arrived. You simply have to act (be ready to buy) immediately when the coins are released in order to get them. That means figuring out the time of day for the release as indicated by the Perth Mint and waiting to order online that instant! Australia's time difference to USA is very different, so be careful and ready when sales go live.

Ordering on the Perth Mint website is very, very easy. However, for this coin you cannot use the Perth Mint site if you want coins delivered inside the US.

So far, I haven't seen the 5 oz. coins listed on GovMint.com. Have they sold out? I don't know. Are they coming soon? Perhaps. If they do the same thing as they did in January, then GovMint.com may have the coins graded by PCGS first, then list the coins later. I am unsure of the timing of the release on the GovMint.com web site. I have never heard good reviews of that company, so I prefer not to deal with them.

By the way, what country are you in? If you are in America (USA), then you need to buy on the GovMint.com website in order to get the Wedge Tailed Eagle coin directly. The US market has limited distribution only through that dealer.

As I said earlier, some dealers in Australia, such as, Downies and Coin Club Australia sell the Wedge Tailed Eagle coins no matter where you live, but they probably cost more from these dealers.

Apparently, CoinsAustralia had some of the 5 oz. coins (on May 6th) and those coins sold out immediately. The same thing happened on the Downies web site, instant sell-out. From the reports of other customers, there were no limits on how many these dealers would sell to any one customer. Some reported buying 5 coins each.

The only other way to get the coins now, is from an auction site, such as eBay. Because of this you will definitely find higher prices at this time. Maybe wait a few years and the prices will decrease.

I ordered through Perth, one of each coin, 5 oz and 1 oz regular proof. If my order was successful and gets delivered, then I will post a picture here for you.

To be honest, if you like the U.S. Mint's AtB 5 ounce silver coins, both the bullion and the collector "P" mint mark versions of these coins, they are a much cheaper option than the Perth Mint's collector 5 ounce Wedge Tailed Eagle silver coin. AtB 5 oz. coins are a good option for buying 5 oz. denominated silver coins with specially Minted designs, if that's what you want. The cheapest are the bullion versions and can be bought from several bullion dealers in the US, such as APMEX, FideliTrade, Provident Metals, Gainesville Coins and many others. The collector versions with a "P" mintmark and a soft frosted finish are cheapest when bought direct from the U.S.Mint online catalog. The U.S. Mint will ship to most any international address.

[@ smart driver: Have you managed to get any of the WTE coins you wanted? ]

I've been quite busy in recent weeks, so unable to finish taking and posting my coin pics. All of my coins were received directly from Perth Mint, so were not submitted to a TPG before receiving them. PCGS populations show nearly all the coins sold by GovMint went 69/70. I've only seen a handful of NGC encapsulated WTE coins thus far.

The PCGS Population Reports on the four types of WTE coins at this time:

WTE HR Proof 1 oz. Gold (Mintage: 1,000) (Diameter: 27.3mm) (Denomination: AUD$100) [Amt. slabbed: 912]

WTE HR Proof 5 oz. Silver
    (Mintage: 5,000) (Diameter: 50.6mm) (Denomination: AUD$8) [Amt. slabbed: 2,861]

WTE HR Proof 1 oz. Silver (Mintage: 10,000) (Diameter: 32.6mm) (Denomination: AUD$1) [Amt. slabbed: 8,096]

WTE Regular Proof 1 oz. Silver
    (Mintage: 5,000) (Diameter: 40.6mm) (Denomination: AUD$1) [Amt. slabbed: 94]

I have found all of the coins I received to have terrific detail and very sharp Proof strikes with flawless, deep mirror fields.

The 5 oz. silver coin was really hard to photograph. It's deep concave surface catches and reflects everything around it, so eliminating background colors and such required setting up a lot of sheets of paper as blocking. Here are my coins all together now... Enjoy!

    As I said above,

Perth didn't deliver to the US because of contractual distribution rights with GovMint per this release. You just need to subscribe to Perth Mint e-newsletters and read their blog to know what's being released. It's all out there. When something goes on sale, you have to be online and ready to buy, at-that-time! "The early bird gets the worm."
