hi all, before i went of vacation i purchased this coin, it was waiting on my in the mailbox when i came back...so doesn't count as falling off the wagon. it was only 6 bucks, i couldn't say no to a coin type i didn't have. i also told vlaha i would try to do a black background picture, so after much trouble, here's my coin and new photo... Sultan Bayezid II 1481-1512 Silver Akce Bursa mint (?) 12 mm (at widest point) 0.9g Bayezid II was the successor (and son) of Mehmed II who captured Constantinople. An interesting guy regarding treatment of Spanish Jews that were fleeing the inquisition, and he founded one of the first medical schools. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayezid_II two questions: 1. does anyone know what it says? does it have a date? or refer to the mint? 2 . considering this is right on my medievel/modern coin border (1500 were i cut it off usually), should i put this with my modern coins or ancient/medieval coins? i assume these were hammered (off flan partially, strange shapes on several), so i'm leaning toward medieval.
Sweet => that's a very cool new addition ... congrats!! Hmmm, I think it looks more like a medieval than a modern (great score, brother)
Good job with the black background! The picture is very bright though and it washes out the details. Here is is with the highlights darkened and overall brightness reduced.
=> Geeesh yah, I really must agree with my Manitoba brother's observation ... I really have become attached to that nasty ol' varnish-challenged table of yours ... I definitely appreciate your efforts with improving your photography skills and it will certainly be a healthy start of a new shiny future, but man-o-man, your cool ol' table should go into the "Ancient Coin Hall o' Fame!!"
Funny how everyone notices that you changed your back ground, i think its great but we will miss that awesome table, your coin has good color, very nice...
thanks TIF, don't know why I didn't mess with that myself, looks nice! i messed with the brightness a bit in photobucket, it may help the pic a bit. it was kind of a pain to do the black background, so i'll probably be going back to the crappy table for most of my coin pics.
That's all right, the important thing is that is that now you know how to do it. To each his own. Do know where I could find the tools to do that? It might be useful in the future.
Neat addition. Toook me a lil bit to find a pic of mine Ottoman akche Suleiman 1 "Kanuni" 926/1520/---974/1566/
vlaha, under the "colors" tab in gimp, there all sorts of stuff to mess with that...i just didn't do it for some reason.
